President Joe Biden on Tuesday backed reforming, rather than scrapping, the filibuster after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell warned Democrats that ending the long-standing Senate procedure that can block partisan legislation would bring the Democratic president's agenda to a standstill.
Top Democrats, including the two highest-ranking party members in the Senate, have stepped up rhetoric in recent days about the future of the filibuster, which requires support from 60 of the chamber's 100 members to pass most legislation - effectively giving power to the minority party in a closely-divided chamber.
The parliamentary custom has long been seen as a mechanism requiring bipartisan consensus that distinguishes the Senate from the House of Representatives, where only a simple majority is needed to pass legislation. But with the Senate riven by a rancorous partisan divide, consensus has become an increasingly elusive goal.

The “talking” filibuster would be a huge waste of everyone’s time, but if that’s the way they want to play it, it can still get the job done if just a handful of GOP senators aren’t lazy bastards. Most of them ARE lazy bastards, but thank for a few like Ted Cruz who when push comes to shove WILL stand up there reading Moby Dick into the record for 10 hours if necessary.
Rand Paul is another one who loves the talking filibuster standing for hours on end.
If we go back to the “talking” filibusters, it won’t be long before Democrats demand that the lights and the microphones in the Senate chambers be turned off for fear that some truth might accidentally wind up on C-Span2.
Among specifics that the world’s oligarchs are willing to pay Democrat politicians for here, are the mandating of universal, anonymous voting and the disarming of the American population. Generally, the world’s oligarchs want to control and enslave the U.S. population and take this country.
What is the price of each of the Democrat politicians for doing this?
The trend is towards a new kind of communism: communist governments for every nation controlled like machines by the wealthiest people around the planet.
It’s like the Democrats have amnesia that they were a minority party a couple years ago.
“It’s like the Democrats have amnesia that they were a minority party a couple years ago.”
They have a very well founded expectation that the fraud machine they employed in 2020 will be effective in 2022. They dont care what they roll over at this time because the democrats will be the ruling class going forward. The washington generals shuffling along with gym shorts pulled down around their ankles.
Yep, follow the money.
In the US, it's the private FED. Owned by a handful of elites, can print Trillion$ at a moment's notice.
The FED is tied to London bankers, to which the US is in hock to for not just its wealth, but sovereignty itself.
Good for Russia, who recently broke with the Dollar (ie, FED/London bankers).
The US is next...
Didn’t he once do 16 hours straight one time?
I’m OK with this as long as it can only be stopped with a 2/3 vote, instead of 3/5, since it would be difficult for Dems to find 17 GOP votes (as opposed to 10) to help them stop it.
i remember one of the things i heard from Rush Limbaugh years ago...and its so true..the even when democrats lose an election, they simply act like they won. Look at now..its a 50-50 split, yet they act like they got a 25 seat edge...
I had been screaming (for years) for Republicans to do this when we held significant majorities in the Senate.
They never had the nerve to even contemplate it. Democrats? With a 50-50 split...no problem.
I’d like to hear the transcripts of the State Legislature hearings on voter fraud read aloud. I listened to several hours of the one in PA, with sworn testimony.
As D.C. fumbles packs of wolves gather China and Russia work just got easier now the democrats have some power.
I like the idea.
The filibuster should be the option of last resort: is it an issue important enough to shut the whole government down, or not. It should *hurt*, everyone.
Good luck with that. I’ll only approve going back to the Talky McTalkerson version — something I would actually like to see — if the override threshold is raised to 67 votes (from 60).
Of course, Butt-Head undoubtedly wants the override threshold to remain the same, meaning a talking filibuster is not so much a threat to him, since enough GOP could join the Democrats to override when they get tired of the whole thing.
I’ll only approve of it if the override vote threshold goes back up to 67 votes.
