As concerns mount over the efficacy of the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine, the Bay Area’s leading public health officials have come together for what appears to be their definitive statement on the vaccine options currently available in the United States.
Public health officers from Santa Cruz, Berkeley and all nine Bay Area counties — Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma — issued a statement Monday emphasizing the fact that all of the vaccine options are “safe and have been shown to be highly effective at preventing symptomatic illness and hospitalization.”
“The clinical trials for all three vaccines demonstrated that they were 100% effective in preventing deaths from COVID-19,” reads the dispatch. “There is also growing evidence that all three vaccines help prevent asymptomatic illness, too.”
The statement mirrors that of prominent public health experts, many of whom have emphasized that the newest vaccine to be authorized for emergency use in the United States is just as valuable as its two-shot brethren.
The statement acknowledges the general perception that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is less effective than its two-shot counterparts, in part exacerbated by officials such as Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who turned down an allocation of the Johnson & Johnson doses after suggesting that they are inferior to the Moderna and Pfizer shots.
“What is not in dispute is that all three vaccines — Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson — are extremely effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths,” Duggan said in an op-ed in the Detroit Free Press days after he was criticized for those remarks.
“There has been much debate about the advantages of one brand of vaccine over the other, but it’s difficult to compare their efficacy,” reads the statement,

The commonly touted statistics for each vaccine’s efficacy levels all took place in different contexts, with Johnson & Johnson having to contend with newer variants of the virus.

Am I correct in thinking the the Astra Zeneca vaccine is not being distributed in the United States? Why~?
Hasn’t the J&J vaccine only been in use for about a week or two? Isn’t it kind of early to make sweeping statements about its safety and efficacy?
IIRC, none of these are FDA approved vaccines. They are approved experimental therapies.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine seems to be the safest but there is that issue that reportedly stem cells derived from an aborted baby were used in developing it. I'm not a medical doctor so I don't understand all the ins and outs. Have any other commonly-used vaccines previously been developed with the help of stem cells derived from an aborted baby?
All three have been through the complete three phase double blind testing protocols that every vaccine on the market goes through. Trump was not lying when he said they have passed the gold standard of testing. What he did was take a 3 to 5 year bureaucratic process and eliminate the red tape. That 3 to 5 year process does not mean they are testing the whole time not at all the three phases of testing are done in months not years. These vaccines are no different. So Trump is lying to us for what purpose? His actions literally are saving thousands if not millions of lives right now. He is a American hero for getting a 95+% effective vaccine in the arms of Americans while 2000+ per day were dying. All three prevent hospitalization and death at 99+% rates. And Israel has shown with real world data a 94% asymptomatic infection prevention and 96% symptomatic prevention that means out of 100 vax people only 6 will get an active case of the virus and ONLY those 6 could pass it on. This is down from a potential 40% asymptomatic rate. Israel will have herd immunity this month and will be done with this bug in 6 weeks or less. They are using the Pfizer vaccine. Don’t even start with the 99% survival rate thrown around by people with zero.data to back it up. Johns Hopkins researchers have the real numbers it’s 1.8% death rate that’s not up debate without the level of peer reviewed research johns Hopkins has some troll posting on the internet gets zero credence.
Israel leads the world in vaccinated population percentage they are at the end of this.
I’m waiting for the partially tested Russian sputnik vaccine. Argentina bought a large supply of it for its citizens because it was cheap. Now Argentinians can serve as the test dummies, and if they don’t die en masse, the Russian government can distribute it to its citizens and the rest of the world with testimonials from Argentinians.lol

They have only completed Phase 2 trials. Then were rushed to market before Phase 3 trials.
Phase 3 trials are where MOST vax’s FAIL, and...where other SARS vax’s have failed, and (animial) test subjects died.
