why Spain?
I am thinking of leaving too- looking into less costly alternatives right now.
Have considered Portugal but I know nothing about retiring in Spain.

Climate and cost of living. The Mediterranean coast is not too expensive, cost of living about 20% less than where I live here in Ft Worth Texas and the real estate is about 30% less. Santa Barbara type setup with mountains behind and facing the Med. 80 degrees in summer 60 in winter 300 days of sun. Great food and wine, very laid back. Short hops to a lot of European destinations my children live in Paris about to graduate college with no plans on moving back to US.
