Yup, just like polio, smallpox, whooping cough, etc. They just keep changing and making the vaccines worthless.

SARS-CoV-2 is an RNA virus. RNA is unstable, so it mutates over time. Some mutations are less viable and die off. The successful ones begin spreading again. Since it is endemic and passed human to human, it's not going anywhere. Flu viruses tend to "marinate" in bird and swine populations until they mutate into something that can successfully infect a human again. It happens over a longer time from than SARS-CoV-2.
