Buyer's Remorse for Some Evangelicals

Evangelical Christians, who once were content with staying out of earthly concerns, have grown into an influential subset of American politics. Not all who identify with this label vote in unison. They voted in large numbers in 1976 for Jimmy Carter, but reversed course in 1980 and went for Ronald Reagan. In subsequent elections, a majority has voted for Republican candidates.

In the 2020 election, this subset created a new subset. They called themselves "Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden." Their members include Jerusha Duford, the granddaughter of the late Reverend Billy Graham -- the evangelist who came to regret his involvement in politics and his troublesome association with Richard Nixon -- and thousands of pastors and other influential Christian leaders.

The group acknowledged that while Biden did not support their primary issue -- that of protecting unborn human life -- he was "more consistent with the biblically shaped ethic of life than Donald Trump."

After observing Biden for less than two months in office, the group issued a statement. It said evangelicals and Catholics "feel used and betrayed," especially as it relates to the president's recently stated opposition to the Hyde amendment (which Biden supported for years), which prevents taxpayer funding for abortions.

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a socially conservative organization based in Washington, issued his own statement: "They can't say they weren't warned. Everyone in America knew where Joe Biden stood on abortion -- because he told them. In 13 debates, multiple campaign ads and a Planned Parenthood town hall, no one had any doubt that if this man won the White House his folksy faith talk would take a backseat to his political deal with the far left. If Evangelicals for Biden want to say they never saw this COVID bill and its abortion funding coming, they were the only one."

Two things about this. Liberal Christians like to speak of other issues, such as immigration (how's that going for them?), the environment and helping the poor, along with personal character qualities as having equal importance -- and for some, greater importance -- than abortion. The problem with that argument is that the right to life is the most fundamental of rights. It is mentioned first in the Declaration of Independence. If you can't be born, nothing else matters.

Second, Evangelical Christians are called to devote themselves to a higher kingdom and King that is not of this world. Just as Scripture says one cannot serve God and money, neither can one equally serve God and temporal political kingdoms that soon pass away.

Here are some reminders for people who may not have heard sermons on the topic. Paul writes, "We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. (1 Corinthians 2:6). John the Apostle put it this way: "Do not love the world or anything in the world. ... The world and its desires pass away..." (1 John 2:15-17)

These and other verses don't prohibit one from voting, but they do call for the right priorities and for not "marrying" one's self to a political leader or party.

Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden might have learned from recent history and how identifying one candidate and claiming he (or she) are more favorable to God and to Christian voters than another is a form of idolatry and ultimately futile.

Humankind's greatest needs are less economic and political than spiritual and moral. No politician can redeem the soul, though Biden vowed to "restore the soul of America."

Pro-Life Evangelicals for Biden should have known better than to bargain with the abortion devils. Because they chose to ignore the above and similar verses, they are now suffering from buyer's remorse.

I know one of these crazy people. He went all in on hating Trump (NeverTrumper) and when Biden bubbled up, went all in on him. His Facebook account was the main way he got his pro-Biden message out.

He surely won’t admit he did anything wrong because he likely will just say he did his best and Biden is human.

Sadly, this piece is excrement is someone I knew from the 90s. He talks a fair game, but you realize his foundation is emotional, despite him always appearing erudite. He keeps wanting me to read things he posts on Facebook, but I refuse to ever log in. Thankfully, an ex-roommate does occasionally engage him, but to no avail. The roommate always thought I was “out to lunch” on my attitude toward this liberal Christian, but I’ve been right about him for decades.

You ever read the back of the book and wonder, “how could do many people who know the Truth be fooled by the antichrist?” Then, did you say, “there’s no way Christians could be fooled like that!”

Welp. Here you go.

"...Pro-life Evangelicals for Biden..."

Maybe it is just me, but how can someone be that? It is one of the reasons that I feel that Leftism is a mental illness. With that much cognitive dissonance stirred up, how could it now cause people to become unstable?

If you can be pro-life and be for any Democrat...you have either zero intellectual capacity, zero principles, or a combination of both.

It would be like being an Anti-Capitalist and voting for Trump.

Things like this make me shake my head.

You cannot be a Christian and be a Democrat. The two are as incompatible as oil and water. They just do not blend together.

I had never heard of Jerusha Duford before and looked at here Twit feed. Here is that latest gem:

“That interview... I was definitely triggered, I was teary, I was cheering.. all the things. Note: it is ok to walk away even from family when it becomes a mentally toxic space for you. Bravo Meghan for your bravery and Harry for validating her needs. WOW.”

Don’t know which child of Billy Graham she was sired from. It’s not Franklin because he is listed as her uncle on some of the search returns.

Sorry...no *true* Christian could have possibly considered voting for Plugs.Yes,it could be argued that a “true” Christian...an “Evangelical”...might have had trouble voting for Trump (there's clear evidence that he hasn't always lived an entirely blameless life) but in that case the Evangelical would have voted Third Party,or write-in,or left “President” blank.

That is exactly what some who were my friends said.

“Yes, Biden is pro abortion but he is a nicer man than Trump! I mean, as a X (fill in the blank) Christian I think you must be nice first!”

My youngest was a serious high risk pregnancy. So much most doctors wanted us to kill baby bear. We didn’t. My wife has zero tolerance for Stepford Karens, and lit them (and their husbands) up.

Which is OK. Now we know who will report us to the KGB when the time comes.

Sure, millions of babies are being slaughtered,

Democrats believe it is a crime fighting and cost savings measure. Get 'em in the womb and you don't have to pay for their crimes or the life sentences.

Huge amounts of money was spent by the Left in this election. A clever Democratic operative probably put together this coalition of corrupt fools for just a few bucks. If they influenced twenty five thousand naive voters, it was money well spent.

My Bible says to go neither to the left or the right. I do know that baby murders in Egypt in Bethlehem and in idolatry witb babies sacrificed by Israelites to Moloch was noted by God. Those murderers certainly are wishing eternal punishment to be a fable: it is not. Numbers 35:33 ..Blood defiles the land..

Here is a simple and undeniable historical truth.

Whatever its faults, the Republican party was founded on the principle of no expansion of slavery into the territories, which in real terms meant the end of slavery.

The DemoKKKrat Party, as founded by Martin Van Buren, was created SPECIFICALLY to protect and preserve slavery so as to prevent a civil war.

One party was founded on a good, pure, and noble principle, one was founded on evil. It’s as simple as that.
