If China takes out our surface naval vessels with thousands of lives lost (they can) it will go nuclear before sundown. Just one boomer sub can take out all of China as a functioning society. It will then descend into internal warfare as we drop nukes on them. They willl drop nukes on us also. Neither wants this and both are rational.

China, or any country in this scenario is by definition attacking the US using Weapons of Mass Destruction aka WMDs. The default upon usage of WMDs against the US is to respond in kind. That means a massive nuke counter strike sending the adversary back to the Stone Age.

Also, we often forget that India, Japan, and maybe South Korea might have something to say about a sudden Chinese military offensive. And if it escalated, we have numerous well-armed allies, while China has a bunch of third-world s**holes that can’t do squat, and perhaps Iran. Russia?...maybe, but I’m not convinced that they would risk their own territory for China. In fact, Russia might be more likely to join in against China, if they’re smart. Jump in while everyone is pummeling the bully who lives next door before that bully can turn on you, which he inevitably will otherwise.

I think the opening gambit to seize Taiwan will be information & economic based. As Biden & Nancy are busy spending our grandchildren into the poor house I hardly think the Chinese will have much heavy-lifting to do.

I think China is rational. I’m not so sure about us. From the outside, does the election of Biden, Trump’s treatment, etc. all look rational to any other head of state?
