In a podcast, JD Greear defended a former staff member who said that while he was on his personal pastoral staff and “very active” in his church for many years, he secretly looked at gay porn and hooked up on gay dating sites. Despite the fact that this went on for years, Greear defends him saying that he needs to “feel his pain” and “learn to grapple with his questions from his point of view.”
Interestingly, this is the same staff member that Greear defiled the pulpit with when he and this guy danced together to a Whitney Houston song and Greear “shook his rump.”
He goes on to say that this person is “still very close to his family” and that even though he was secretly addicted to gay porn and hooked up with other men online, he still lets him around his kids. “My kids love him,” he says.
While Greear doesn’t go as far as to affirm homosexuality, Greear has insisted that the Scriptures only “whisper” about homosexuality while addresses other sins–such as greed or boasting–in a much greater way. He’s also called on Christians to stand up for LGBTQ rights.
So this begs the question: what do we need to see from this person’s point of view? Do the Scriptures not provide a clear enough point of view? While this guy was running around on the pastoral staff and pretending to be a Christian, he was hooking up on gay dating sites and looking at gay porn. All behind everyone’s back. Romans 1 is clear–he gave up natural relations with women and he was consumed with passion for other men (Romans 1:27).
So what is it exactly we need to see? Would JD Greear say the same thing about a man abusing women? Greear and the Southern Baptist Convention have a no-tolerance policy for that. In fact, they’ve invented an entire committee to investigate and disfellowship churches who even consider hiring someone who has even considered batting an eye at a woman who isn’t his wife.
Should we approach them with the same compassion and understanding? Wasn’t he just born that way? Shouldn’t we see things from his point of view? Yet, when it comes to gay sin, Greear wants us to approach them with “understanding” because the Bible only “whispers” about that.
My gaydar is more and more going off when this guy is brought up.
No sex if you aren't married to her?
To be a pastoral leader, one must control one's natural urges - not just lust but also gluttony, lying and greed.
Sins hidden in the dark will come to light.
I would suggest penance in a monastery but now am not so sure that they are safe places anymore.
Typical religious hypocrite.
The big religious divide these days is sodomy versus non-sodomy.
Catholic, Protestant, even Jewish, the litmus test for "liberal theology" is sodomy. And not just live and let live, either. They require both obedience and homage.
Needs to “feel his pain”? I’d better not continue here...
Southern Baptist Convention. Beware.
About eight decades ago I was raised in a southern Baptist church. For that I am thankful. Now days nothing but the Gospels are preached and that with sugar coating. I doubt most pastors know the Old Testament and can present Jesus in a sermon and application from there.
The church has become a social gathering and not much more. I believe that church has more lost souls as members than most. It is because God has become like a big teddy bear and is only comfort and love. One only has to crawl up in his lap and he will wipe away their tears. Eight decades ago I was taught acceptance, repentance, commission and omission. Those are not words used today.
. . for you know what commandments we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; . . . Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.
1 Thess 4:1-8
Maybe his real name is Jay D’REEAR.
The sugar coating makes today’s message NOT the gospel.
I knew this guy was a filthy “dreamer” Jude warned us about:
“Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries” (Jude 1:8)
And:
“These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.” (Jude 1:12-13)
SBC’s Greear may not be a homosexual, but he is what Scott Lively calls a “homosexualist”, that is, a reprobate who supports these perverts. The Levitical punishment for these monsters has not been repealed from the Law. Romans 1 makes it clear that they are still deserving of death in this life (and they know it!), not just the 2nd death to come the Lake of Fire. (Revelation 20, 21).
