I always thought they’d go on a “charm offensive” and maneuver Taiwan diplomatically to the point where they freely and popularly would want to rejoin with the manland.
I don’t think going on a war footing will get them there. But who knows what they could accomplish while Biden and Harris are in office?
I don’t think the charm offensive works any more in light of what they have done in Hong Kong.

Yea, as mentioned earlier, that did nearly work, but it ended with Hong Kong. But now they’re just working on weakening Taiwan’s capability to fight (they got Taiwan to legalize gay marriage in 2019, for example)...but in the end, they know they have to use force.
