Fully-vaccinated Americans can gather with other vaccinated people indoors without wearing a mask or social distancing, according to long-awaited guidance from federal health officials.
The recommendations also say that vaccinated people can come together in the same way with people considered at low-risk for severe disease, such as in the case of vaccinated grandparents visiting healthy children and grandchildren.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the guidance Monday.
The guidance is designed to address a growing demand, as more adults have been getting vaccinated and wondering if it gives them greater freedom to visit family members, travel, or do other things like they did before the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world last year.

Went to breakfast yesterday with my son and his girlfriend. We parked right in front of the restaurant. It’s only a 20 step outdoor walk to the delightful outdoor patio in the rear and there is nobody on the front sidewalk or the pedestrian way to the patio. My son tells me to mask up for the 10 second walk to the patio. I AGAIN refuse to do that and he lectures me about how rude I am, endangering other people, etc.
We immediately get seated at an open table and he and his girlfriend then take off their masks, so the total time they were “protected” was maybe 20 or 30 seconds tops.
I find I’m unable to knock any common sense into his 30 year old skull.
Why otherwise sensible people think that you are endangering yourself and others while walking without a mask on an empty sidewalk but NOT endangering yourself when sitting not far from them on the patio is beyond me.
Tell them to read the fine print on the backs of the boxes of masks they buy.
Then think about what they just read for a moment.

Good idea. Unfortunately, our box of masks does not have that language which is common on other brands (I checked a few weeks back).
Explain to your son — I have no reason to think he is otherwise not an unreasonable person — that going through life in irrational fear and ignorance is no way to live.
