From vote to virus, misinformation campaign targets Latinos

WASHINGTON - Tom Perez was a guest on a Spanish-language talk radio show in Las Vegas last year when a caller launched into baseless complaints about both parties, urging Latino listeners to not cast votes at all.

The effort showed how social media and other technology can be leveraged to spread misinformation so quickly that those trying to stop it cannot keep up. There were signs that it worked as Donald Trump swung large numbers of Latino votes in the 2020 presidential race in some areas that had been Democratic strongholds.

Videos and pictures were doctored. Quotes were taken out of context. Conspiracy theories were fanned, including that voting by mail was rigged, that the Black Lives Matter movement had ties to witchcraft and that Biden was beholden to a cabal of socialists.

That flow of misinformation has only intensified since Election Day, researchers and political analysts say, stoking Trump’s baseless claims that the election was stolen and false narratives around the mob that overran the Capitol.

More recently, it has morphed into efforts to undermine vaccination efforts against the coronavirus.

“The volume and sources of Spanish language information are exceedingly wide-ranging and that should scare everyone,” Perez said.

The funding and the organizational structure of this effort is not clear, although the messages show a fealty to Trump and opposition to Democrats.

YouTube, Facebook and other social media companies have cracked down on false claims since before the election and intensified such efforts after online conspiracy theories helped incite the Trump loyalists who attacked the Capitol.

Trump received record support from Latinos and blacks. Which means that in order to make up the difference, white supremacists would’ve had to have voted for Biden.

including that voting by mail was rigged

TOTALLY untrue!!!

Which is why Democrats are fighting like Democrats to prevent anyone from seeing the mail-in ballots from Maricopa and Fulton Counties...

Oh, look professional propagandists pretending to be “journalists” (LOL) are trying to paint their political opposition as promoting “misinformation,” when they view themselves as having a monopoly on disseminating misinformation. The leftists are clearly terrified of free-thinking Latinos noticing that all the Dems want is to control them, make them dependent, use them, surround them in a sea of crime and drugs, and destroy their families and values.

This is the money quote from the article:

“ The effort showed how social media and other technology can be leveraged to spread misinformation so quickly that those trying to stop it cannot keep up. There were signs that it worked as Donald Trump swung large numbers of Latino votes...”

This is gross journalistic malpractice (I know, it’s the AP, but this is bad for even them). The article fails to distinguish between actual false information and opinions with which the disagree. It seems that the AP really believes that the only way Latino voters would vote for Mr. Trump is due to them believing “misinformation.”

It couldn’t be that they see Mr. Trump as a decisive leader who reached out to them as Individuals, and addressed their concerns in thought and deed. Therefore the AP writers think that a substantial portions of Latinos are idiots.

Conspiracy theories were fanned, including Biden was beholden to a cabal of socialists.

There is far more proof that Biden is beholden to Socialists than there is that Trump was beholden to white supremacists.

To reiterate my earlier post, Trump won record support from blacks and Hispanics so Biden would've had to have made up the difference with white supremacists.

The leftists typically treat minorities who do not agree with them as if they are imbeciles. An earlier Dem argument as to why 1 of 3 Latinos voted for Trump was that Latinos are plagued with “macho culture” and only supported Trump out of misogyny. All the racist accusations and stereotypes and insults come spewing out of the Democrats when non-white people don’t do what they tell them to.

Of course, they do a similar thing to blue-collar whites who don’t fall into line obediently too, treating them as idiots and rednecks and inferior to themselves.

Is that excerpt a news report or an editorial? I thought AP didn’t have an actual opinion section.

Trying to excuse and explain away why Trump got whatever level of “Latino” support that he got.

The AP is taking the lead in keeping up the mantra of the Dims trying to spread the lie that there was no election fraud.
