But what appears to be a plastic paint, sealant, or other construction -type bucket emitting the smoke . . .
I do not know how far back in time, to go, when those would be ubiquitous. I do not recall them being around in the 1950’s and early 1960’s.
Containers like that (back then), were made of tough cardboard and a black tar -type laminate (sometimes with a very thin layer of tin, or aluminum, included in that lamination) -— or, were metal, not plastic, way back when.
