A Great Dane had a great time experiencing his first snow in the yard of his home in Hernando, Mississippi, video from February 20 shows. This video shows the gentle giant, Bluford, bounding through the white stuff. “His favorite snack is ice cubes, so when he tasted the snowflakes he knew it was going to be a great day,” owner Leslie Weaver told Storyful. Makes me cry. I lost my wonderful Great Dane, Canute, who was nearly 11 years old, about three weeks ago. Makes me remember him in all of his joy, silliness, and genuine nobility. Danes are the greatest.

The black and tan markings common to a Doberman pinscher run all the way from the tiny Chihuahua to the Great Dane.

I had a miniature pinscher, complete with the cropped ears and bobbed tail, named Goliath, who had a bigger than life personality. I was walking him off his leash in our local dog park when he spotted a Great Dane, with the same black and tan markings, enter the park from across the field. He looked at her, then up at me, then back at her. With a final look my way he took off after her as if to say, “I found me a big legged gal!” He was so happy to greet her! Alas, she was not impressed.

Goliath passed over a decade ago, but I still smile at the thought of him.

Danes are notorious for having genetic health issues. But they are fun dogs.

That’s the tragic irony about them. I found the late Canute was the most wonderful, silly, funny, compassionate, decent dog I ever adopted. Then, all of those great character and personality features made losing him hurt all the more. BTW, his size just added to his wonder. I got hooked.
