PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon beer and wine makers say a new bill proposed in the Oregon Legislature would unfairly increase a tax on the price of a barrel.
Oregon currently has one of the lowest taxes on a barrel of beer in the country. Each barrel is 31 gallons and Oregon's tax is $2.60 per barrel.
House Bill 3296 would increase that tax by $70, from $2.60 to $72.60 a barrel.
"First of all, it's a ludicrous tax. To go from $2.60 cents to $72.60 is actually like just bonkersville," said Ecliptic Brewing founder and brewmaster John Harris.

“I see you have some money there. Give it to me.”
Every month or so, take a nice drive across the state line and stock up. Take friend and some money from a few others and bring back a truckload.
I remember Texans driving all the way to Colorado just to get Coors beer in the ‘60’s.
I wonder if that was defensive when rioters were rampaging that the bar owner was “one of them” and avoid destruction?
There’s a bar here in Boise that uses a rainbow flag and BLM signs, but I think they are mindless purple haired millennial morons and snowflakes...probably funded by a former 60-70’s hippie who hit big on a tech stock.
Beat me ny 2 minutes! 8~)
My Schwartz is slightly bigger. :)
The opposite of progress is CONGRESS!
One useless man is a shame, two are a law firm, and three or more a legislature.
“Up north in Washington State they just hit us with a 30 cent per gallon gas tax increase.”
And they are already attacking alcohol makers.
Oregon is really slow. Washington State Beer Tax Brewers or wholesalers of beer pay a tax to the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board for the privilege of manufacturing or selling beer in Washington and have since 2011.
The tax applies to each 31 gallon barrel or its equivalent in cans and bottles. Beer is also subject to retail sales tax paid to the Washington State Department of Revenue, whether purchased in the original container or for consumption on-premises of the seller.
Brewers and beer wholesalers submit a report each month. The payment and report are due, and must be postmarked, by the 20th day of the following month. And the tax is even graduated:
Beer Tax Facts at a Glance
Beer tax high rate $8.08 per barrel
Beer tax low rate $4.782 per barrel
This year the tax rate on whiskey and other liquor in Washington state is $32.50 per gallon. That’s 10 times more than in California, where it’s $3.30 per gallon.
Wine is taxed at a much lower rate than liquor. According to the Tax Foundation, Washington’s wine tax rate was the 25th in the nation in 2017. But hey...a buck’s a buck.

Along with lotteries, the only way to tax the poor.
Nope...we didn’t have any rampaging here...Portland leftists come here to get away from what they have created.
Which bar in Boise? I need to know so I can assiduously avoid the place.
