Fry’s ping...
Yep.
I liked them, but years ago they started getting really barren in the stores and you could tell it was getting bad. Out of Fry’s, Circuit City, and Best Buy, only 1 remains. Terrible.
That’s a shame. Ultimately, they’re yet another victim of amazon.com.
For the things I used to get at Radio Shack, I had to travel 25 miles to Fry’s; not even certain I would find it there.
Yeah, Radio Shack was pretty sad too. Even their own brand stuff (Realistic) was really good.
They weren’t really a big box type place, but they do deserve a mention.
First time I went to the Fry’s in Silicone Valley (Santa Clara??) back in the early 80’s it was magical. I knew they were going toes up when one day I walked into one and saw many appliances not on the floor, same in the TV department, (oh no, cash flow/credit problems), and the guy who checks your bag at the door gone. Surprised they lasted this long from that time.
Fry’s was fun indeed.
Probably the store in Campbell.
Many years ago, Circuit City was shut down...I went to a Circuit City store for some liquidation sale...I did not buy anything...
I visited Fry’s on Monday...I bought some diet green tea bottles...I used promo code and saved money...
I bought many things from Fry’s...Hard drives and blu ray movies...And others...I often got good deals...
I noticed that Fry’s did not have Black Friday sales for last few years...I thought that was weird...
I guess many people will be out of work...Too bad...
I guess Amazon should be blamed for Fry’s being closed...
I will miss Fry’s...I don’t want to order everything online...Sometimes I want to visit a store and look at different items...That is what I did at Fry’s...I am disappointed...
Several years ago, I saw the HUNTER DVD collection on sale at Fry’s...For entire seven seasons...The collection cost $34.99...I did not buy it...I never saw that again...I kept on looking for it...No luck...
I’m thinking it was the one in either Santa Cruz, Santa Clara or Sunnyvale. Sunnyvale seems to click.
I still have a Micro Center in the area; thankfully. Otherwise, we would have yo resort to BestBuy, and they don’t usually carry the specific items needed.
I hate buying online. I’d rather go to a brick and mortar store and have it NOW.
How about CompUSA? I bought some items from that place...Including Playstation 2...
I liked Fry's exchange policy...I never had any problems...
Fry's would accept items for returns...Then it would put them back on the shelves...At reduced prices...I often bought those items...
Several years ago, I saw the HUNTER DVD collection on sale at Fry’s...For entire seven seasons...The collection cost $34.99...I did not buy it...I never saw that again...I kept on looking for it...No luck...And yet you wonder why they can't stay open.
I'll bet many more businesses go under now as many had figured this would be ending now that Biden is President.
But it looks like Biden wants to be King of the closures, God help us! As these, typically, have a cascade effect.
For the things I used to get at Radio Shack, I had to travel 25 miles to Fry’s; not even certain I would find it there. It's hard to stay in business when you only have RCA jacks, alligator clips, overpriced speaker wire and battery operated toys at Christmas time.
MicroCenter is probably the only Fry’s type entity that’s still is in existence. They seem vibrant and healthy, with a pulse on the market, staying current and relevant, focusing on 3D printing, the Maker crowd, PC builders, consumer electronics. And their pricing models are smart. Offer Amazon type pricing on some items but only in-store.
Just this morning I was looking for a particular 110v AC to DC converter (rolling blackouts killed my fiber optic internet power supply). Fry’s had one listed with all the right specs, but showed all local stores sold out. I paused a moment, considering the “buy online and pick up at the store tomorrow” option, before deciding against it (I modified an old Dell laptop PSU for free). I remember wondering how much longer Fry’s would last. Question answered, I guess.
We had 2 Frys stores in our area of Georgia. We loved them and bought a lot of stuff there but the last time we went into a store was early 2016. It sounds like times haven’t been good for them. Sorry to hear about it.
