Germany is in the third wave of the pandemic, Angela Merkel warned last night, even as the country prepared to reopen schools by prioritising teachers and nursery staff for vaccination.
The closure of all non-essential businesses and border controls with Austria and the Czech Republic, where there have been outbreaks linked to the more infectious British variant, have helped Germany to reduce new daily cases.
But a slow vaccination campaign and the risk of outbreaks could make any easing of restrictions more difficult.

The western world may well reach some collective breakdown in governance of its population over this pandemic.
Not sure where or when that breaking point is, but there are many varied government systems being stress tested by lockdowns.
Part of me thinks this will never stop. Many people in leadership are drunk on Stalin’s wine.

So many more cases, same deaths.
These “waves” are in some or most part artifacts of testing capacity.

Someone more knowledgeable might correct me, but I doubt that. It’s in the German DNA to obey. Awhile back I was reading about this German town. Berlin told them that they must take in 1000 Muslim immigrants. That was half the population of the town! And to make matters worse, there was simply no room for those people. To house them all, the local high school would have to be converted into a hotel of sorts.
A town hall meeting was scheduled. A representative from Berlin explained the plan. Not a single German citizen present objected. They all just sat there and listened.
I’m surprised there are any of us left at this point. Tossed upon this sea of death.
Still a 99.5% chance of recovery?
