Dangerous, illegal, and stupid.

Dangerous, illegal, and stupid. So is stealing an election.
Following silly rules are for stupid little people. I am an EE so I know what I am doing. There was nothing unsafe about how I powered MY house.

Let’s just say that’s not something I would even think about doing. I use a manual transfer switch along with strict power up / power down protocols. It’s not rocket science. Then all we have to do is throw another log in the woodstove.

It may be a code violation in some areas, and you certainly need to shut off the main breakers to isolate your local circuits from the grid, but for someone with a reasonable level of knowledge about such things it isn't stupid or dangerous.
You even pick up the additional protection of the breaker that normally serves the dryer acting as an overload breaker for the generator.

Not if you know what you are doing. Pull main breaker first!
At this point - who cares?
Then freeze, Sucka!
