States rights. Before "the war" the states were superior or at least equal to the federal. After, the opposite. But what really sealed the federal power take over was the 17th amendment.

Sadly, a lot of these memorials have lost their meaning through time. We will put up new memorials after we win the current war. Those are the ones we should be thinking about.
