They signed a contract.
Yeah what kind of weird rate plan are they on? Some kind of feel-good “Green Energy” special rate plan? Texas FReepers what say you?
“They signed a contract.”
They did, but I wonder about the responsibility of the various regulatory agencies in restraining the market from producing the necessary GW.
Some may not know, but we have several largw Gulf Coast refineries shut down as a result of natural gas shortages. ExxonMobil Baytown is down. Beaumont is down. Motiva Port Arthur is down. Marathon Galveston Bay is down. The situation is shocking to be honest.
Unconscionability.
Failing to provide power in a life or death situation via poor decision making and policy would appear to be the pinnacle of contractual breaches one could manage.
“They signed a contract.”
While true, and while they did make out like bandits in good times (often paying nearly nothing for power), people do elect governments to protect them against themselves...in other words, to be their ‘parent’, in some ways.
We may not like that, but Abbott at least understands that Republicans cannot win elections by looking the other way (or jetting off to Cancun, for that matter), when people do dumb things. He knows that if Republicans are not seen to care about these people, then Democrats will be given a shot at caring about them.
The problem is the people who are allowed to vote, at least in this country (everyone, rather than only people who contribute). Until that changes, no one will stay in power if they try to ignore the ‘takers’.
I think if ERCOT failed in winterization of equipment..resulting in high rates..why should rate payers pay for their errors and misrepresentations?
As for Abbot..you would think ERCOT is supervised by the PUC which is under Abbot. ERCOT members and PUC should be replaced and buck stops with Abbot.

Under certain conditions, one of which was NOT that Biden could illegally demand power plants shutdown during a winter storm.
