Rich Nations Stockpiling a Billion More COVID-19 Shots Than Needed: Report
Reuters ^ | FEBRUARY 18, 2021 | Kate Kelland

Rich countries are on course to have over a billion more doses of COVID-19 vaccines than they need, leaving poorer nations scrambling for leftover supplies as the world seeks to curb the coronavirus pandemic, a report by anti-poverty campaigners found on Friday.

In an analysis of current supply deals for COVID-19 vaccines, the ONE Campaign said wealthy countries, such as the United States and Britain, should share the excess doses to “supercharge” a fully global response to the pandemic.

The advocacy group, which campaigns against poverty and preventable diseases, said a failure to do so would deny billions of people essential protection from the COVID-19-causing virus and likely prolong the pandemic.

No problem. We’ll just inoculate them after they sneak across the border.

We have relatives/friends in the Midwest, Southwest, the east coast and out here in the left coast, who are 75 or older, and unable to make an appt. to get the vaccine for themselves or loved ones.

Rumors are coming in that illegals, criminals and of course the friends of the governors are getting vaccinated.

One of my siblings has a husband with severe Parkinson’s and she finally got him the first vaccine last Saturday. She is his only care giver and 78 years old. She has been unable to get an appt. for herself to get vaccinated.

As Biden Pushes for Racial Equity in Vaccination, Data Is Lagging

The administration has race and ethnicity data for just 52 percent of vaccine recipients. Next week, it will begin shipping doses directly to clinics in underserved communities.

From the department of redundancy department: stockpiling more shots than needed that aren’t needed.

By rich nations, do they mean the countries that invented and manufactured the vaccines?

And paid for them. Not that paying the bill for something counts for anything.

That’s true. Paying one’s bills is a sign of white privilege.

According to tenured college professors.

Probably the only thing in all the vaccine vials is spring water.

Biden rolling out plan for $4 billion global vaccine effort
By AAMER MADHANI Associated Press Feb 18, 2021 Updated 12 hrs ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden will use his first big presidential moment on the global stage at Friday’s Group of Seven meeting of world leaders to announce that the U.S. will soon begin releasing $4 billion for an international effort to bolster the purchase and distribution of coronavirus vaccine to poor nations, White House officials said.

Biden will also encourage G-7 partners to make good on their pledges to COVAX, an initiative by the World Health Organization to improve access to vaccines, according to a senior administration official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to preview Biden’s announcement.

Former President Donald Trump declined to participate in the COVAX initiative because of its ties to WHO, the Geneva-based agency that Trump accused of covering up China’s missteps in handling the virus at the start of the public health crisis. Trump pulled the U.S. out of the WHO, but Biden moved quickly after his inauguration last month to rejoin and confirmed that the U.S. would contribute to COVAX.

The $4 billion in U.S. funding was approved by Congress in December and will be distributed through 2022!

Wait a minute. My husband and I are elderly and we can’t get an appointment to get our first vaccine here in Pennsylvania.

It appears there is a shortage of vaccines.

So this article is untrue or we are being mislead.

I have tried hospitals, clinics, Rite Aid, CVS in counties over 120 miles around where I live and no one has the Vaccine available. I am near the Poconos.

It’s a bogus report.

They wouldn’t be prioritizing who gets it if there so much of a surplus.

Last time I looked, the United States has close to 30 trillion in debt. Most rich I know wouldn’t be considered rich if they owed 100 percent of what their worth. So sick of people thinking we’re a rich country. We’re a debt ridden country.

According to the MS vaccine site, we have 2nd dose appointments available but there are only 3 first doses available statewide - if I check in 3 minutes, they will be gone.

Fine by me - I want to wait for the “old technology” Johnson & Johnson vax - but the wife wants to get in line for the current ones...
