You’re confusing a puppet and a marionette. Marionette’s have strings and can dance but don’t talk. A puppet has someone else’s hand inserted to work the mouth. Joe’s a puppet. Somebody has their hand up Joe’s butt

I’m glad you posted this because now I know I’ve been using the word puppet incorrectly, although I’d wager most people do likewise without giving a thought to using the word ‘marionette’!
