Because there are plenty of Ritz Carlton hotels in warm, sunny Florida. The U.S. economy could benefit from U.S. Senator Ted spending his tourism dollars in the U.S.

Bad optics.

This is how the media sets the narrative:

"Mary Kay Hoffman holds a sign as she waits for Sen. Ted Cruz to arrive back in Houston on Feb. 18, 2021."

Heirarchy of entities responsible for handling disasters:

1- City
2- County
3- State
4- FEMA

Note that neither Senators or Presidents are on that list. Handling a disaster requires technical knowledge and training that applies to the type of disaster. A Senator would only get in the way. Federal aid outside of FEMA in the form of $ takes months to show up.

Even if it is a PR black eye for Cruz it’ll be forgotten in two weeks. Stop hyping nothing.

>>No media outlet or Democrat has yet demanded Biden do anything.

The Rat talking point now is to have the feds take over Texas’ power grid

That’s probably what Gary Hart and Dukakis thought.

Actually Cruz admitted that his daughter didn’t like freezing in Texas and suggested the family decamp to Mexico. It was a spur of the moment decision and that is why it is being criticized. As a senator his job, at least originally under the Constitution, was to represent the interests of the state as a whole to the federal government. If he didn’t want to freeze, he should have taken his family back to DC and publicly done whatever he could to marshal assistance from the feds. He said his staff was doing this but the optics look bad.

As an aside, I was involved many years ago in a hostage situation. Family of the hostages were sequestered from the press. After an hour or so the mayor and his wife entered the shelter and asked us what we needed that they could procure for us while we waited. They liaised with the police to get information to the families, brought food, helped set up a television connection so we could view the news coverage. Many years previously I met an eastern transplant to Idaho who was managing an agriculture interest group. When a dam broke just after Memorial Day in 1976, our town was threatened with flood damage. The major sandbagging day was a Sunday when many of us left church, changed our clothes and headed to the local shopping center where dump trucks were discharging plain old dirt to be shoveled into potato burlap bags (which hold 100 lbs of potatoes) as “sandbags/” As I was working, lo and behold, the new manager from the East showed up in a pure white Sunday suit and began shoveling. I noted the ant hive of folks working and suggested he could skip the dirty work. He just smiled and said he wouldn’t miss this for the world. Those are the kinds of politicians and managers who earn respect amid calamity. Not ones who flee the site for balmy weather and phoning in their “help.”

“He has nothing to do with running electric power in Texas.”

Teds job is to look out for and protect Texans. He should have been making calls to large corporations, gov’t, Aid groups for starters.

“not go to Cancun maybe”

By Staying he would have added 4 more people to the list of those who needed services and he could not have made any impact on available serveries or the decimation of those services.

This is a petty visual got ya by the left.

With a couple days warning why were the lefties,(they seem to be the whiners about Ted) in taxes not much better prepared for this situation?

There were a lot of relatively inexpensive or even free things they could have done to mitigate this situation.

A family of 4 with the investment of $125 each in preparation would not have been cold or hungry during this event. Most of that investment would have stayed in place for the next situation of this kind.

When I’m talking about this I mean with that small investment that family of 4 would have had a warm place to be, hot food to eat, water to drink and for personal washing, and a flushing toilet.

So why are people getting off on Ted when it was their own damn fault they were not prepared?

What in tarnation did Cruz think the lying media would say after Cruz and family fly off to Cancun, all while most Texans were breaking icicles off their faces as they hunkered down with no heat or power, for days!

Did Cruz think they’d give him a pass?

Amusing to see the defense of Cruz by repeating over and over how he has no power to do anything and is tonally worthless in a time of crisis... That's kind of the critics’ point.

No it isn't.

“I said yesterday, if had been a long planned vacation, then you owe it to your family to not cancel. At least not them.”

Actually, long-planned or not, he did owe it to his family to CANCEL.

He chose to be a HIGH-PROFILE public figure, no one forced him. He’s a lawyer, he had plenty of options short of being a US Senator. If you want to be in that position, you become a public person - you ‘private life’ will be compromised, and you literally have ZERO control over that fact, particularly if you’re a Republican.

In this case, the reason that he owed it to his family to cancel is that THEY have to live with the fallout of what he did - don’t think his kids will get a free pass on this at school, or his high-roller wife either.

He should have explained to them that a person of his profile DOES NOT leave his voters behind in a time of need, and if he did go with them, they (along with him) would pay a huge price...which has already started, with the protest at his home yesterday. His kids had it tough to begin with this year, with the Dems calling him a killer when he tried to be jocular and now calling for his prosecution. He wasn’t doing them any favors by going to Cancun with them, not this week at least.

A lot of it isn’t stuff you can prepare for. The water lines breaking and houses and apartments getting flooded have never happened. The cost to repair and upgrade will be astronomical. Utilities will be a very very expensive thing from this. And probably not just in TX either. Trying to belittle this is not a good move. Not only thing, a bonehead move like may very well toss the state to the Dems in 2022 or 2024. The pressure to make ads is now gone for the dems, cruz tossed them that.

If that’s hard to understand I dunno. One things Texans are not is forgiving.

Except Ted Cruz has nothing whatsoever to do with generating and running electric power in Texas. Its not his job.
Al he can do is yak about it which is exactly what he did.

Did Cruz think they'd give him a pass?

Nope.
When have the fake news media ever given any conservative politician a pass?
its totally irrelevant what the fake news have to say about all this.

His family asked for a vacation to a warmer place because so much was shut down.
Cruz was in a position to make that happened.
Unfortunately, he made it look like an “elitist escape” from hardship.
Let them eat cake, Ted?

He didn’t have to go with them.
He could have just as easily sent them to Cancun and flown himself to DC.
Or, stayed in Texas among Texans.
Texans are a hearty bunch and help each other out, in the pioneer way.
Ted opted to use poor optics.

He has apologized but I hope his lesson is learned.
In the new Trump-influenced politics, patriots will not defend stupid actions like this.
And, I told him so.

I’m sure Jeb calculated that the pesky little Terry Shiavo flap would blow over too.

Dumb part of human nature: “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.”

The fake news media can yelp all they want, Ted Cruz never killed anybody.
Images like that one are of no consequence.
