Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to allegations that he flew to Cancun, Mexico, in the midst of record cold temperatures and snowfall in Texas—which has been besieged by power outages over the past several days.
Cruz appeared to confirm that he went to Cancun, saying that “with school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”
“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he said in a statement on Thursday, referring to the power outages and, in some cases, loss of water.
Send their families too. Sen. Cruz has plenty of money. And, recall he and his family were looking for people to go along. There might be an issue of people NOT wanting to leave ("have to watch my property", etc.), but that's solvable with a little organization & resourcefulness. Ted is supposed to be a leader, right? Organize neighborhood watches & get a little positive publicity from that...? Most problems are also opportunities.
My brother in Austin says lack of water is becoming a big issue. It is keeping his restaurant (he’s asst. mgr.) shut down, delivery of bottled water has not happened, and per his last e-mail to me “that pesky problem of NO WATER anywhere nearby” his location. I’m not clear on whether there is no municipal service at his location, too many breaks to fix in a short time (he’s pretty handy with repairs of most stuff), supplies for repairs are in short supply, or what, as he also mentioned a boil water order for Austin, and his boss had pressure @ home evidently. I can see where boiling enough water to run a restaurant could be a big problem, and if it’s discolored that’s even worse for a restaurant, but he says “NO water”....
Update: Per recent news articles, apparently a number of treatment plants are still down.
ted cruz is a politician not a babysitter...
we adult people in hurricane territory prepare for and handle such emergencies ourselves...
expecting and relying on politicians to do what you’re capable of doing yourselves is foolish and stupid...
OUR MEN were out in the storm working wrecks/fatalities, driving ambulances, fighting fires, trying to keep the water plant running, setting up warming shelters for the community/stranded motorists, checking on the elderly/sick, delivering food to those that needed it, etc.
And I can promise you that not a single person that they helped gave a rat's fanny about whether they looked HOT in jeans.....or that Ted Cruz went to Cancun.
Don't think so.....
While some cities in Texas may be turning more Progressive......in 2020, the Dems started losing Hispanic/Black support all across the state, especially in the historically safe counties near the border, which wiped out the gains they were counting on in Houston/Austin/Dallas/San Antonio. That support is going to continue to drop, with their open borders, anti gun and anti gas/oil agenda.
The recent Del Rio Mayor's video, pleading with Biden to stop the open border madness, while they are dealing with a pandemic/weather emergency is NOT an aberration. Border communities are already up in arms because of the catch and release policies they are already seeing in their areas......which is why those elected by Southern Districts are telling Biden he needs to slow it down/rethink what he's doing.
U.S. Senator Ted "Proven Leader" Cruz did not live up to his self-described campaign attributes. When the going got tough, "Tough as Texas" Ted fled the country while his constituents were freezing to death.
Nobody is obligated to respect or re-elect U.S. Senator Ted after his bonehead decision to flee the country. Cruz demolished his political aspirations for higher office.
Yes.
It was definitely a “Dukakis in the Tank” moment for Ted.
Adios, amigo.
Welp.....at least I'm not a self righteous jerk.
10 degrees outside.......34 degrees inside my house.....no electricity/no alternate heat. Dogs were safer in my house, with their food/water/beds than outside with ice/wind, dear.
And while I didn't go to Cancun.....I did have to slide across town, because with no phone service, that was the only way to make sure my FIL wasn't in trouble, since he ALSO didn't have electricity/alternate heat and was determined to stay in his house.
In fact, Jane, NO ONE in our small town had electricity for DAYS. We didn't have brown outs we were in black out.....stores closed, no access to gas pumps, water, food, etc.
BTW, I'm proud of my community that worked their asses off trying to take care of each other VS sitting around waiting for someone to save them...... or griping because Cruz went to Cancun.
If that makes ME a jerk........that's just fine with me.
Trump won by nearly a million votes. I think we’re going to be a-ok. The only fear is fraud out of Harris and Austin counties.

Gee....I say you should’ve had the SAME police escort, to your dear FILs house, that Ted got to the airport, for his Cancun trip.
Ditto in our town...for the the black outs.
Niece’s area was without power and water for three days. Her dad brought her a generator to keep the heat on...for her/her family and her dogs....as he thought 34º +/- was too cold for ALL of them.
Everyone in our surrounding area, on municiple water, are on boil water notices, now.
¡Si, Señora!
My family is “prepped”, well, certainly not as well as those really serious would recommend, but probably better than 99% of the US population. (I even went to the considerable and ongoing time and expense of expanding my daughter’s small chicken flock — wanna buy some eggs?)
But... that’s irrelevant in terms of the politics involved for Senator Cruz. I don’t have to like it any more than I like taxes, but, facts are facts: Optics = votes.
630,000. Still over a 5 point margin. I don't think Texas is close to going Blue any time soon.
U.S. Senator Ted could have sent his family to any one of at least eight Ritz Carlton hotels in Florida, benefiting the beleaguered U.S. tourist industry.
People in Texas have DIED resulting from this storm, Jane. Homes have burnt down, some still don't have electricity/water, while others have flooded homes from burst water pipes .......and all you can do is sit around and RANT about Cruz?
Unbelievable.......I'm done.

Yes.
We are done, here.
Cruz is what our Jewish brethren would call a ‘’putz’’.
optics=votes to people who refuse to see the entire picture...
the man isn’t God, he’s a human being that had no control over the weather and the aftermath it produced...
people were warned ahead of time about the approaching storm...
people’s anger should be directed towards themselves for not being prepared for the worse case scenario and not having an escape plan when necessary...
people are flocking to florida because it’s winter and it’s a kung flu fearless state...
and keep in mind that storm was heading east at the time and could’ve limited traveling...
