Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) responded to allegations that he flew to Cancun, Mexico, in the midst of record cold temperatures and snowfall in Texas—which has been besieged by power outages over the past several days.
Cruz appeared to confirm that he went to Cancun, saying that “with school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon.”
“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas,” he said in a statement on Thursday, referring to the power outages and, in some cases, loss of water.
Thank you, good post.
Exactly!!!
There is NOTHING that Ted Cruz can do about this by hanging around anywhere. Is the entire Texas Congressional delegation supposed to come home and suffer in the cold with everyone?
This is just the media seizing on an opportunity to make Cruz look bad over something they’d dismiss were it a Democrat doing it.
ERCOT announced today the emergency condition is over and rolling blackouts have stopped. Next week the weather will get into the 70’s. There is ZERO Cruz could have done to make any real difference.
This is a comment of mine in another thread:
Maybe I shouldn’t have been happy I didn’t lose electricity.
Outages Morph Into Outrage As Texans Slapped With “Mind-Blowing” Power Bills
The rolling blackouts that plunged up to 15 million Texans into darkness amid a historic cold snap are diminishing by the end of the week. About 188k customers were without power in the state on Friday morning. Days after power prices jumped from $50 per Megawatt to more than $9,000, the horror stories pour in for those who had power this week during grid chaos as they are mind-boggled how their energy bills skyrocketed.
Texans who were on a variable or indexed plans with power companies are only now reporting their bills have jumped hundreds of dollars, if not thousands of dollars for the month.
WFAA Dallas spoke with one person who said:
“Mine is over $1,000…not sure how…700 square foot apt I have been keeping at 60 degrees.
One couple said:
“When your electric company tells you to switch but there has been a hold on switching for over a week now. Using as little as possible 1300 sq ft house and this is my bill. . How is this fair. I only paid $1200 for the whole 2020 year. “
A tweet was accompanied by a screenshot of their bill that now stands at $3,800 for the month.

Omigosh
Yup. Politics 101.
I just wonder… There is a LOT of repair work to be done, and there are a lot people who’s homes are livable (heat back on at least) but with difficulty, due to the damage in TX.
I know this comes with a big “maybe”, but, President Trump is a resourceful guy with many connections: Maybe there is some opportunity, perhaps not obvious, for DJT, in this.
I’ve been seeing people said their meters say they’ve used tons of power when they were down. I dunno how safe I am even with a fixed contract going until next year. It’s already getting bad here with the illegals and liberals, this might get some of them to move out though.
Just completely clueless.
Making Democrats dreams come true
At least he doesn’t talk about Hitler
or rape
Yeah, those reports of gas price jumps to the utilities were more than just a bad omen...
Folks, it was only 5 days lol. No one was starving in Texas. HEB was still open. I bought Dairy Queen and BBQed. No one froze to death, other than a bum who refused to go to shelter. All other deaths were caused by natural selection when people ignited their BBQ pits inside their houses.
At least 24 have died in Texas related to Storm
https://www.healthcarefinancenews.com/news/texas-hospitals-deal-winter-storm-disaster
Now what were you saying.
Too late for Teddy to do anything except lay low and hide for a couple weeks.
If it motivates undesirables to move out, that would be a good thing.
Your article: "At least 24 people have died, many in accidents caused by efforts to stay warm."
There are no deaths from freezing other than the bum I mentioned. No one starved to death in Texas lol. No one turned into an ice cube in Texas lol. Almost every single death has been a result of either death by fire, or carbon monoxide poisoning. At worst, there may be a few deaths from traffic accidents caused by ice on the road.
Breathlessly talking about how people are "dying" in Texas "without food! without heat!" over the past 5 days is the stupidest stuff I've heard all week.
Power is out and it’s as cold as it ever gets in the area and I have the money to go somewhere warm? Especially if I have kids? SEE YA!!!!! And I’d have stayed in Mexico and told my critics to eat my a**.
What a does a Senator have to do with a power crisis? That’s state and local government, he’s not the Governor, he’s not a mayor. Everything that needs to be done is being done, what’s he suppose to do? Personally deliver batteries to old ladies? Do we know how many Texas Rat representatives left the state?
Yeah yeah “optics” because people are stupid.
BTW eff whatever “friend” of his wife that shared her texts with the media vultures.
Offense, attack democrats ala Trump. Start with Beta, find the stock he must own in some wind company and make it his fault.
Digging his own political grave.
When will Republicans ever learn?
Tell that to the families of those 24 who died.
And that number is still growing.
And that “bum” you speak of.
He was a human being.
How nasty of you to write a life off so easily.
I think there’s way too much letting the democrats control the narrative and make a scandal out of something that’s pretty irrelevant. Maybe the usurper Joe Biden’s assault on gun owners should be what we’re complaining about.
No! They would still hate him.
When will Republicans ever learn? Trump tried to teach them to win. They would not listen. Apologizing is ALWAYS weak! And it allows their enemies to set the narrative.
Never apologize. Never!
Absolutely. He may as well let the media do his wife.
He hasn’t learned from DJT, obviously. That’s the scandal here, a Republican still playing the apology game, how big a fool can you be Ted?
