SACRAMENTO - Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders announced Wednesday that they have agreed to provide low-income Californians a $600 state stimulus payment to help them weather financial hardships during the COVID-19 pandemic, part of a $9.6 billion economic recovery package that also includes $2.1 billion in grants for small businesses.
The "Golden State stimulus" payments are in addition to the $600-per-person stimulus checks already approved by Congress and would be on top of direct payments of up to $1,400 per person that have been proposed by House Democrats.
The package put forward for immediate action also provides more than $400 million in new federal funds for stipends of $525 per enrolled child for all state-subsidized child care and preschool providers, which serve some 400,000 children in subsidized care statewide.
Beneficiaries would include immigrants who are in the country illegally who file tax forms. ITIN taxpayers who also qualify for the California earned income tax credit would receive a total of $1,200, state leaders said.
The state Legislative Analyst's Office said recently that providing $600 state stimulus checks to low-income residents "makes sense," but suggested it might be better to target money to those who are not getting federal stimulus payments, including immigrants in the country illegally, which could have boosted the state checks to $1,800.

Illegals deserve more of Navin’s wealth.
Buying his way out of impeachment....don’t think it will work....too obvious!!!
For the crowd that fits into this situation....the $600 will pay for about seven days of really good drug binges.
No Check is Illegal.

talk about buying votes. Hilarious.
All of that is Gavin’s loot? Well done!
When politicians are legally held responsible for their actions while in office and especially afterward you will see a difference unless they are really and truly mental. If Cuomo wolf and other northeast Nazi governors were held responsible for the murder of the elderly in nursing homes do you think they would have thought twice about this decision? A free pass from indictments prosecution and jail
California taxpayers? Better direct deposit the money for me as well, although I’m a resident of Colorado and living in the Philippines.
I still have to file a CA tax return this year.
Nuke-em....hoping to buy the anti-recall vote.
...and then Newsom spent $600 on dinner. /sarc
First-—Consider that over $100 BILLION was fraudulently paid out in Unemployment in Calif-—Including the $600 weekly additional money.
At least that is the amount California is admitting to.
Now-—a state stimulus check...with a budget that is crashed already.
WHAT COULD GO WRONG??????
