I have posted elsewhere. But, I hope that Rush's friends and family are reading the posts here. Rush, to me felt like a member of my family. He was, of course, subject to the attacks that prominent conservatives always are. I agonized over his rejection by the NFL and ESPN. I was heartbroken over his deafness, and addiction to painkillers.

For thirty years, he was my mentor. My compass. My voice of sanity. He would come on my radio and would deliver an insight that was not kneejerk, not cookie cutter, but insightful in a way that only Rush Limbaugh could conceive it.

To his friends and family, if any media figure can be so deeply beloved, it was Rush Limbaugh. Legend hardly even starts the conversation. And to think, he had considered himself a failure at 35.

An true American hero.

And he was open about those parts of his life. That is part of why he had such a connection with his audience.
