Nearly all of the Republican senators who voted in favor of convicting President Trump during his impeachment trial are facing censures.
Reprimand came quickly for Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) who was censured by Louisiana’s Republican Party shortly after President Trump was acquitted.
...
On Monday, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) was censured by several state GOP committee leaders in Clarion, Centre, Lawrence, Washington and York Counties.
...
Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Neb.) is also facing a pending censure motion by the state’s Republican Central Committee, ...

Good. And remove McConnell from leadership while you’re at it.
What is the practical real life effect of a censure by the state GOP?
Like they care. They’re all either not running again or have just been reelected.
They plan on boxing the people in like they always do “well you’ll just have to vote for the republican (who we conveniently got renominated) since we know you won’t vote for the democrat.”
THEY DON’T CARE. THEY CONTROL THE ELECTION MECHANISMS.
So.. what does all that amount to? A tut-tut and a demerit?
Other measures need to accompany the censures.
Loss of campaign funds.
Loss of party support in future elections.
Loss of committee assignments.
Repeal the 17th Amendment.
There’s hope for the Republican Party yet. It needs to have it’s RINO head cut off, and let the MAGA rank and file fill in the void.
WOW! Censure. I hope that the hand they slapped wasn’t the same one that they use to take political donations from.
Next time they will send them to their room.
1. For one thing it brings attention to the malfeasance of the individual to the public in general and to the Party faithful in particular. It is more official and thus on record just than individuals expressing disapproval.
2. It should be a mark against them the next time they run for office in that state.
The effectiveness depends on the follow-up of those within the state and remains to be seen, of course, but at least it is there and on the record. Like any tool, it's only as good as those who wield it.
It better be a down payment on kicking the 17 traitors out of the party. I have never in my life been so adamant about anything as I am in seeing the traitorous 17 house and senate Republicans lose. I prefer it to be to a Republican but I will accept it being to a Degenecrat if needs be. I’m not saying there are only 17 near worthless losers in the party in Congress but those 17 need to be made into examples. They have betrayed President Trump. They have betrayed Ashli Babbitt. They have betrayed their loyal voters. They betrayed me and they betrayed you. They can go to hell.
Fine, if “censure” is the new way to spell “tar & feather”.
“What is the practical real life effect of a censure by the state GOP?”
Harsh words....that’ll teach ‘em. What a freakin’ joke.
Watch the unified, breathless coordination on the part of the alphabet networks - diminishing the meaning of censure and that it “really doesn’t mean anything” beyond a simple reprimand. Only when GOP are censured is it a “powerful rebuke”. Even a disinterested voter can see this rank hypocrisy.
What is really happening is everyone who watched the impeachment proceedings now knows what slobs Toomey, Sasse, Burr, Romney, and Cassidy are to their constituents. That is something they cannot live down. Everybody who watched knows that the democrats were trying to suppress Republican votes in 2024.
Primary them all out.
It might give the inquiring mind in the press (if there are any) pause before concluding that the senators who voted to convict represent the sentiment of the voters in their states.
As for the senators themselves, not much. They do now and will in their next careers represent K-Street lobbying firms, not their voters.
What exactly does a censure do? Does it withhold $ for when they run again?
i dunno makes those doing the censuring feel better I suppose...
its right up there with “a strongly worded letter” and “double-secret probation”
Sen. Johnson: Capitol Breach Didn’t Seem Like an ‘Armed Insurrection’ to Me
There is only ONE state GOP chair. If only 5 County chairs spoke up than this is a minor hand slap. Where is the state GOP chair?
