There are two core technologies that need to be refined in order to have a successful space colony on Mars. The first is a 4g thorium reactor. The second is very cheap desalination --which robust enough to seperate out all the elements from martian salt water. Mars is rich in underground salt water and thorium. Those would be useful topics for Musk to discuss with Putin

The Democrats love Elon Musk just as much as they loved Trump when he was a Democrat. Elon Musk is coming to our side imagine him being president one day?

Musk was born in S. Africa. He’s not qualified as a NBC.

The most troublesome problem with Mars is the sleeting radiation from the sun. Mars has virtually no magnetic field like Earth does to protect it. The only way humans would be able to survive on Mars is by living underground.
The moon trips were possible because, in part, the trip was only a few days so the humans could be fairly well protected from the radiation. Trying to keep them from dying of radiation poisoning during a months or years long Mars trip is likely beyond current technology.
Sending robots is a better idea, but the communication lag between Earth and Mars is between 8min20sec to 41min40sec depending on the orbital positions. So robots can't be controlled directly in real time. This is a problem if the Green Barsoomians or Kang decide to attack.

You'll also need a lot more coal-fired power plants to generate electricity to charge all of those electric cars. Solar panels, wind mills, unicorn farts, etc. won't do it.

Gee, I wonder if some of the left-wing media will use this story to try and call it an act of “treason” on Musk’s part? :P

Building a Marsbase is a Horrible Idea: Let's do it!

Every single issue you mention, can and will be overcome, most with current technology. Future an developing technologies will take care of the rest..

The most troublesome problem with Mars is the sleeting radiation from the sun. Mars has virtually no magnetic field like Earth does to protect it. The only way humans would be able to survive on Mars is by living underground. Elon Musk has plans for that. All of his companies are part of the plan. His Starships will be large enough to have double hulls with water as a barrier to radiation. The water will be mined from the Moon. The Mars habitats will be built in craters and lava tubes, that's where his Boring Company machinery comes into play. They'll dig tunnels towards frozen water supplies on Mars, the excavated soil will be made into construction materials. His biggest problem is time, as he fears he won't get the job done in time for him to go to Mars.
I agree with you, sending robots is better. Musk's AI companies will make better automatons to do work in space but Musk wants people to go, which is extremely bad for humans.

Neither was Obama. Neither was Kamala. Neither is Cruz.
That ship has sailed. In fact, it’s already in the new world, building colonies.

Colonizing Venus by
Terraforming the atmosphere actually very likely one day. Earth has more CO2 then Venus. Venus also has more nitrogen then earth. Turn CO2 into lime (adding Hydrogen with the use of Sabatier reaction) and we have lots of new real estate. Though it would only last about 12,000 to 24,000 years and it will be destroyed again from what we're only now learning about our star very likely periodically has micro-Nova's. Without an iron core it makes the planet far more susceptible to large flares and Micro-Novas

"Colonizing Mars is idiotic" Oh, I don't know....🤔..I can think of a few people, (actually quite a few), we could send there, that would benefit us..
And maybe we could even save money, by asking Musk if he could build some kind of a giant catapult to send them there.
