Half of Texas Wind Turbines Freeze, Hurting Electricity Output
Brietbart ^ | Febuary 15.2021 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Nearly half of the wind turbines in the state of Texas froze in recent winter weather, hurting state power supplies, according to state authorities.

Nearly half of Texas’ installed wind power generation capacity has been offline because of frozen wind turbines in West Texas, according to Texas grid operators.

Wind farms across the state generate up to a combined 25,100 megawatts of energy. But unusually moist winter conditions in West Texas brought on by the weekend’s freezing rain and historically low temperatures have iced many of those wind turbines to a halt.

As of Sunday morning, those iced turbines comprise 12,000 megawatts of Texas’ installed wind generation capacity, although those West Texas turbines don’t typically spin to their full generation cap

The outlet noted that the loss of power was largely offset by the fact that the remaining turbines were spinning quickly because of strong winter storm winds.

#33 Hopefully not while the blades are spinning !

You go to YouTube and see vids of some poor sap, dangling below a helicopter while deicing wind turbine blades.

What workarounds are there for solar cells for snow/ice/overcast situations; backup storage ?

Shame on Texas politicians for even allowing those things to be used in Texas. Is it also true that you can’t buy real (non-ethanol) gas in Dallas County? Texas cities are as bad as any other big city.

I am sure Pickens had a hell of a lot to do with this CRAP in Texas, I think he has passed away, not sure though!!

Fracking has been around for about seven decades. Injection into rock formations for disposal probably has resulted in slippage.

Wind turbines are designed to last until the subsidies run out.

It does, but at crazy low temperatures. Gas is mostly methane, with several other hydrocarbons and whatnot. At STP, most of those freeze between -200F and -300F.

Dallas County, no where that I know of. But right outside Dallas county, there’s at least three places on the border in Rockwall County.

Wind and solar are interruptible energy supplies. Only firm energy supplies should be authorized for design peak days. Period.

I’m aware...but for all practical purposes...here on earth....it doesn’t freeze.

It is time to phone the crap out of our governor and demand that these unlawful unconstitutional mandates from the feds STOP. Keep coal plants running and expand the ones we have. I for one do not want to live in a California type state.

Gas wells are being valved in because the producer cannot make ends meet at current prices.

Up the demand by building gas fired power plants, bring to production of diesel from ng, push for more gas fed furnaces and water heaters in homes and more use of ng fired boilers in chemical plants.

The Texas gulf coast has a ng zone that holds trillions of cf of ng but current pricing it makes it non productive to go after.

Austin Statesman is proclaiming that the turbines that didn’t fail picked up most of the slack. But they didn’t. Production is down... Temperatures are down... Prices are UP!

To quote Rev. Algore Junior “ever’thing that is down should be ayup! An’ ever’thing that is ayup should be down!”

Exactly that Billgates, John F Kerry, Rev. Algore Junior, et al refuse to teleconference means it isn't as bad as they preach.

They don't live austere personal lives.
