Turley on Impeachment: Trump’s Capitol Speech ‘Does Not Meet’ Standards of Criminal Incitement
Breitbart ^ | February 14 2021 | TRENT BAKER

Sunday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s News HQ,” George Washington University Law School Professor Jonathan Turley sounded off on the question of whether or not former President Donald Trump could be criminally charged for inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol in January. The Senate voted Saturday to acquit Trump of inciting an insurrection.

Turley is, of course, right. No intellectually honest observer could really believe that telling people to peacefully protest is incitement. That’s what’s particularly galling about the “magnificent 7” RINOs who voted for conviction. They went along with something that objectively false because either (1) they were bought off; or (2) they have an irrational hatred of Donald Trump; or (3) they cynically believe that being on the “right side” of the woke/Dem/liberal/media establishment will pay dividends for them down the line; or (4) some combination thereof

He correct as an academic matter. But Trump could be charged. We know that the government charges “wrongly” so as to exact punishment by process.

And in this case, the stakes are high.

I guarantee there is another academic who disagrees with Turley. That ois the rule of law. Whatever you wnat it to be, as long as the process follow something that resembles the correct form, and as long as you utter the catch phrases.

A majority of the senate found that impeaching a person out of office is constitutional. Turley likely disagreed with that, but “he was wrong,” the trial occurred. Label it want you want, but “unconstitutionla” did not have any power at all in the past two impeachments.

There’s something profoundly un-American about using the courts to harass a former president. To my knowledge, it’s never been done before. It just isn’t done. It’s possible that it would have been done to Nixon without the Ford pardon, but the point is that it didn’t happen. We’re really entering into a new era if they try to prosecute and imprison DJT.

You're right...but it was equally un-American to use the legal system to harass a sitting President through the legal/justice shstem, and they did it anyway. They've also threatened for years to go after him and all of his businesses on the state level. So to me, the uncrossable lines already were obliterated.

I say #3.

And they will avoid the Anti-Trump hatred being directed at them next.
