South Korea and the US will begin their biannual joint military exercises in the second week of March, carrying out computer simulations of war against North Korea for nine days, sources said Sunday.
Seoul and Washington, which have held them to deter aggression from Pyongyang since the 1953 Korean War armistice, now take part in computer-based war games rather than all-out field exercises.
The two allies still do not see eye to eye on testing Korea’s readiness to take over the wartime operational command from the US, which has been responsible since the war broke out. They skipped stage two a year earlier due to COVID-19 and have to finish stage three to complete the transfer.
Washington is seen as wary of bringing in its own troops – members of reserve forces holding other jobs -- because of the coronavirus, whereas Seoul is keen to test its readiness to assume the wartime role by May 2022. President Moon Jae-in promised to reclaim the role by that time when he leaves office.
“If we have the COVID-19 situation under control, we could see some of the US troops overseas making a trip here,” a military official said.

As in America, the Chinese Communist Party is completely embedded and infiltrated into the mainstream media. Any thoughts on Chinese leadership’s opinion of the matter?
Here comes the coming comments from lefty Free Republic Neo-Isolationist Necom Alt-right socialist nationalist brigades.
AIT Kim’s reaction will be interesting to say the least
I suspect he’ll start out with a wide barriage of SRBM’S MRBM’s with an SLBM launch in April.
We need a full review and assessment of our military readiness of our military forces on the Peninsula.
Couldn’t have President Trump make an ally of North Korea and defang the problem. Derp State has to have it just the way it is, always on the brink of nuclear annihilation.
Computer games?? WTH...They’re playing RISK?
North Korea was never going to be our ally DJ.
KJU used Trump’s own good cop bad cop routine against him quite brilliantly and effectively I might add.
The DPRK violated 95% of the terms of the Singapore/Hanoi agreements accords along with DM truce accords and of course the inter-Korean agreements and accords now the North is as embolden as never before at any point in the Korean war.
After Hanoi Trump should have went back to fire/fury while nailing top Chiocom and Russia banks on Kim and his elites in addition, to redeploying low yield tactical nukes on the Peninsula and increasing our forces to 50,000 while also putting THADD systems around as well as Iron dome defense.
America’s greatest threat is based in Washington DC
I still believe President Trump could find a way to reach out to him and begin to drive a wedge between Kim and Red China and the Nork military as well (although obviously that could put him at risk for assassination). Since Plugs the Pedo takes his marching orders from Xi, any chance at trying to change the situation is now lost.
I’d prefer the killing him with kindness, flattery and other carrot and stick approaches. Appeals to his ego. Military escalation and threats with nukes ? Precisely what we want to avoid.
Exactly. Although Beijing is pulling the strings (and other dark and evil farces like Soros).
Then you oppose President Trump’s rabid rhetoric for one and a half years prior to Singapore, where he did just that, and all memoirs, recollections, testimony are that he was on the verge of pulling the trigger on DPRK, or at the very least ordering a sudden evacuation of US troops and families and contractors which would have been taken as a precursor to war by Pyongyang, and he was essentially overruled by DOD, State and NSC.
As I said, I’d prefer avoiding a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula.
As if anyone on this thread is “for it.” If it happens, I get vaporized first.
