Who’s a Threat to ‘Our Democracy’? (When progressives single out threats to ‘our democracy,’ what they mean is their democracy.)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | Feb. 10, 2021 | Daniel Henninger

Presenting their case for conviction at the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, the House managers repeatedly invoked Mr. Trump’s threat to “our democracy.” However remote the chance of conviction, Mr. Trump’s role in the Capitol riot is passing into the judgment of history, which likely will be severe. After a lifetime of playing with fire, Mr. Trump on Jan. 6 got too close to the flames, which will engulf his legacy.

But for Democrats, obloquy on even this historic scale is not enough for anyone who, as they say, “threatens our democracy.”

I’ve become fascinated with this phrase—“our democracy.” What exactly does it mean?

Not long ago, hardly anyone used the apocalyptic notion of a threat to “our democracy” as a political argument. Suddenly, it emerged among progressives as a routine term of political art. The word “our” implies another of progressivism’s modern virtues, inclusion. But that, as they themselves would say, is a false narrative.

When progressives refer to “our democracy,” what they mean is their democracy. To be a member of their democracy, one has to share their beliefs. If you’re not in, you’re out. And if you’re out, they may come after you for being a threat to democracy. Other than carbon emissions, what could be worse?

I can’t read the entire article; but the United States has never been a ‘democracy’ and was never designed as one.

We may operate along certain democratic principles, but we are a Representative Republic.

(The people who keep trying to push the idea that the US is a ‘democracy’ are the ones who want mob rule and the abolition of the Electoral College.)

“No, they don’t mean “their Democracy” they mean their Socialism, Facisism, and Communism”

Actually, they don’t even mean that. It would be too principled. All they really mean is a threat to their power and money. Which semantic scam they use to acquire money and power is irrelevant. Any dude’ll do.

Screw the Wall Street Journal.

Once I became a Conservative, around 20 years ago, I completely stopped watching mainstream news. I discovered Conservative blogs. And while these blogs do link to stories in mainstream publications, the blogs themselves are fairly low budget affairs, created by regular people who are passionate in their beliefs.

But after the stolen election, I don’t want to click on any links to any mainstream publications. Even if it’s a good writer. They’re all owned by oligarchs or defenders of the oligarchy.

I’d rather read Matt Taibbi’s blog than Victor Davis Hanson writing for National Review, even though I agree with VDH much more. We need to completely disengage from traditional media and support alternative media exclusively.

For those who say “I don’t want to live in an echo chamber just read opinions by people I agree with”, there are plenty
of Left of center journalists who are not affiliated with mainstream publications.

I used to defend Conservative blogs by saying “hey, they link to New York Times stories, so it’s not so one sided”. But with cancel culture in high gear, I want to support all independent voices, and starve the giants.

Try Epoch Times, Great writing, interesting articles, no left wing poppycock. They just did a analysis of the Times admissions of manipulation and collusion of the 2020 election between media and the DNC. They gave great insight and scrutiny to something I would never read otherwise because I refuse to buy Left wing propaganda like Time ,New York Times Etc. I get a weekly newspaper plus access to the online paper and special reports and commentary. It was a nice B-day present from the wife.

Democracy is tyranny of the majority.

Democracies do not exist except in ancient city states and they too rapidly transformed into oligarchy. I would argue that they were always the tool of oligarchs in their way to securing power.

One of my favorite McManus videos at JBS I first viewed in the early 90s. It's been reproduced using superior production techniques but the excellent content remains.

JBS

Overview of America is a great summary of economic and government systems. Share this link with your friends.
