I'm thinking: maybe we shouldn't put another nuclear power plant in Fukishima again???

7.1 this time, so not QUITE as “interesting” as the one a few years ago

If they would have prepared with more than 6 hours worth of batteries Fukushima would have been the world’s greatest nuclear success story.

Speaking of quakes, the USGS depicts a cluster of over 80 quakes over a 3-day period earlier this week in a 60nm wide area to the east of New Zealand and south of Fiji. Strangely and suspiciously, every single one of them is at the same 10.0 nm depth. Every. Single One.
Any idears what's going on here?

Most likely aftershocks from the 7.7 a few days ago. The frequency is tapering off as expected since the T+48 hours mark

It was pretty intense here in Tokyo. I think about a level 5 on the Japanese scale where I live, but we didn’t lose power or water, and the windows didn’t break this time.
I have a feeling there will be more this month.

There are 88 “earthquakes”, BUT every single one of them, every one, is exactly 10.0 nm. Not 10.1, not 9.9, every one at 10.0 nm. Not suspicious to you?

There are other swarms of these around the world. YOu can find them by browsing USGS. Always, 10.0 km deep.
Their waveforms have no S-wave (secondary), just the P-wave (primary).

I wonder how long before we hear about some quake activity along the “LEFT” coast, which apparently is part of the ring of fire, not necessarily from the Cascadia subduction zone which is further up north and could let go anytime.

USGS has a threshold of 4.0 for international quakes. Other sites (eg: https://earthquakes.volcanodiscovery.com/) tend to be more inclusive.
I don’t know how finely they try to resolve the depth estimation for a remote section of the Pacific Ocean. Maybe that’s why they put 10.0 km not 9.9 or 10.1. A difference of 100 meters from a few thousand miles away isn’t important to them, perhaps???

"maybe we shouldn't put another nuclear power plant in Fukishima again"Fukishima is just fine, it's where in Fukishima that counts.
A number of feet UPHILL from the power plants there are ancient stone monuments with characters so old, they are no longer in use. Translated, they say: "Tsunami Warning! Do not build below this elevation.
