President Trump’s defense team gave their opening arguments on why he is not guilty of inciting the January 6 Capitol breach.
Speaking from the Senate floor on Friday, the President’s lawyers called the impeachment trial an act of political vengeance by Democrats, arguing that the President’s words are protected under the freedom of speech.
“This appalling abuse of the Constitution only further divides our nation when we should be trying to come together around shared priorities,” defense attorney Michael van der Veen stated.

I don’t think people understand the seriousness of this proceeding.
Rightly or wrongly, the majority of the citizens of the US will see this as a legal proceeding.
They are being conditioned to believe that the Supreme Court, in fact any court, is necessary.
The Democrat Party will decide everything.
The coward Justice Roberts has seen to that.
Is unnecessary.
BREAKING: The Senate on Saturday afternoon backtracked on its earlier move to have witnesses in former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, leading the chamber into hearing closing arguments. House managers and Trump’s defense lawyers reached an agreement to admit as evidence Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s statement that said Trump on Jan. 6 resisted telling his supporters to stop storming the Capitol. The House managers who are serving as prosecutors previously said they wanted to call the congresswoman as a witness.
