Closing arguments at former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial were expected to get underway Saturday morning — with each side granted two hours to make their final case to the US Senate before an expected vote on the verdict later in the day.
But Day 5 started instead with House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) asking to subpoena records and call a witness sparking fierce debate with Trump defense lawyer Michael van der Venn.

I disagree with you on that. I DON’T like Lindsey but I agree with him on the vote. It’s a senate procedure, he had to switch in order to call a revoke.
Full disclosure it’s on Newsmax
“The longer this goes on the more paralyzed the Democrat congress will be.”
It’s the Dim senators that want this over quick.
Let’s see if we can drag it out for a month. Or two.
Because Lindsey Graham lied to Pres. Trump and told him if his legal team did not bring up election “Fraud”, that the impeachment trial would be over quickly and Trump woudl be acquitted. Lindsey told him if if did bring it up, more Republicans woudl vote to convict (blackmail). Lindsey got his behind the scenes buddy Mitt and company to help him stab Trump in the back one more time. Notice how McConnell just said that he will vote to acquit right before the witness vote in the Senate. It was a set-up by Lindsey, Pence, McCarthy, McConnell, Cheney, etc. to screw Trump. These people are awful. Worse, the Dems may not let Trump’s side have witnesses.
We’ll all be putting the snowblowers away and bringing out the suntan lotion before this circus wraps up. We may even be bringing the snowblowers back out before then.
They’ve turned this country into a disgrace.
Haven’t heard anything from McCarthy on last night’s Herrera Beutler accusation. McCarthy is now in the middle of a mess that’s way out of his depth. McCarthy is probably shaking in some quiet corner right now.
I’m always curious as to how this “trial“ compares to a normal criminal trial.
Since when can the jury decide who gets to testify?
I know there is a vast difference between this “trial“ and a criminal trial. But how far did those differences extend?
Are the “rules“ simply a matter of what the majority of the Senate decides the “rules“ should be?
You got it.
The Judas Unicorns.
excellent up-to-date synopsis
“There is a single charge of “incitement” against President Trump. How could a private call between McCarthy and Trump on Jan 6th “incite” the crowd already inside the US Capital?”
Good point!
It appears that Bill Cassidy did not vote with the Dems to allow witnesses, yet he voted with them to impeach. He vowed to hear all the evidence and do so with an open mind. Then the SHTF back in Louisiana, and now he doesn’t want to hear any evidence offered by witnesses. The two by four thrown from Louisiana voters that hit him upside his head must have gotten his attention. Now we probably know how he is going to vote when it really counts—guilty or not guilty. He may not be the highest card in the deck but he knows when he screwed up big time.
That was done with the Illegal Indonesian Kenyon fraud and OBodyMortgager.
I would say there is near a zero percent chance the Supreme Court would hear any case brought due to this Impeachment. They have a pretty long history of not ‘looking past the doors’ of Congress. That’s the colloquialism that essentially means the Court won’t interfere in how Congress makes their own sausage.
If Trump were convicted - he won’t be - then there’s a slightly better chance that they would entertain a challenge to the question: Can a former president be convicted of Impeachment? That would perhaps be answered due to the ballot access ramifications.
But, if the Dems want to have months of prosecution witnesses while disallowing defense witnesses, the Court isn’t going to weigh in.
House managers got their case shredded yesterday by the defense. Thus, the expected antics and surprise (ala Kavanaugh hearings) witness at the last minute.
I think this is bad for Dems, they were in a hope and decided to dig deeper. Trump will need to expand his defense team though.
I agree with you. This is a circus.
Yep, let’s being in the people who warned there would be trouble. Let’s bring in Mayor Bow wow and ask why she refused the Guard. Let’s put on Pelosi and ask why the police had such a small presence. Let’s put on the Sgt at Arms, and the Antifa guy first arrested and first released. Let’s bring in the guy who shot Ashli.
No wonder they scurried Biden off to CAMP DAVID last night, (taking him out of DC until the Impeachment hearing is over). I thought, well it’s going to be over this weekend, so they are making media drama out of getting him out of DC for his safety. I GET IT NOW!
“...the Dems may not let Trump’s side have witnesses.”
I don’t think that’s going to happen. Not without severe consequences. One or two dems will vote for equal #, and pubs will get them.
I hope pubs call FIB to depose evidence of pre-planned plots. How can Trump incite if prior planning by maroons?
Yep, he should issue a statement saying his conversation with the President was priveledged.
