I am a black American intellectual living in an age of persistent racial inequality in my country. As a black man I feel compelled to represent the interests of “my people.” (But that reference is not unambiguous!) As an intellectual, I feel that I must seek out the truth and speak such truths as I am given to know. As an American, at this critical moment of “racial reckoning,” I feel that imperative all the more urgently. But, I ask, what are my responsibilities? Do they conflict with one another? I will explore this question tonight.

Very insightful piece written by a very intelligent, honest and brave man. I hope to read more from him before he gets cancelled.
It is rhetorical, I am not a racist Hitler. Don't kill me!

Lost me at “we elites”. Ugh
I remember a story from some years back (maybe about ten years ago) about the black teenager who was severely beaten by a gang of his classmates on the steps of his school in North Philadelphia. He was a nerdy kid who studied a lot. To the best of my recollection, his name wasn’t publicly revealed. I don’t recall president Obama reaching out to help him, or saying anything about his ordeal. My heart went out to that kid. If he had been named, I would have made a point to remember it.
Let’s see . . .
* 70% of unwed babies;
* by far, the largest number of murdered babies in abortuaries;
* affirmative action; Gotta’ be embarrassing to those who would’ve gotten there on their own
* subprime loans to buy homes;
* billions in food stamps;
* disproportional amount of incarcerated N people compared to the rest of the American population
* extremely high neighborhood crime rates nationally;
* and we even gave them roads formerly named for war heroes to MLK named streets (here in Cleveland, Liberty Blvd. was renamed MLK Blvd), which, ironically, let the average traveler know what streets to not go down or get near,
* two Black History months (MLK shoved down our throats in January and “Black History” month in February), where they totally ignore the history of the Black slave traders way back then and even today;
* and 660,000 deaths in the Civil War to free the Ns
* and they still want reparations.
* Still waiting for a single “Thank You” America monument to go into Gettysburg.

How about racial equality in pro sports? we elderly whites don’t even get a chance to try out for NFL!
Sure this is a crazy comment, like all the racist comments!

An excellent article - well worth reading by everyone.
I didn’t have time to slog through this....Anybody got a take on it? The parts I read seems like he is setting hisself like Mr. Switzerland to land MSM gigs as the media now has to deal with a bit of reality.
This is the "blame society" card. Victim mentality = blame society + need and excuse for parasitism (looting and mooching)
Face it, there is a large percentage of blacks that are raised as anarchists. PERIOD. they are taught to grab whenever isnt tied down and to strong arm anything they cant grab. Its a huge chunk of black america that purposely choses to NOT have law and order or accept rezponsibilty for their living situation. And until americans realize the worst part of slavery was the fact we never sent them all back to africa in 1865 as lincoln had proposed, we are stuck with feeding and clothing and housing the ones who really do want to stay on the plantation. The quickest solution is to end welfare, end snap, end section 8 housing. Make poverty as miserable as possible, make unmarried pregnancy a stigma again.
Unfortunately, today’s blacks are quite good at being their own worst enemies. Their inequality does not result from victimization, i.e., things like war, slavery, feudalism, monopoly, or real racial prejudice. As with thugs like Trayvon Martin, they have scores of racial preferences and programs at their disposal, but they do not take advantage of them.
1. Downplaying behavioral disparities by race is actually a “bluff”.
2. “Structural racism” isn’t an explanation, it’s an empty category (both a bluff and a bludgeon).
3. We must put the police killings of black Americans into perspective.
4. There is a dark side to the “white fragility” blame game (the “white-guilt” and “white-apologia” and “white-privilege” view of the world cannot exist except also to give birth to a “white-pride” backlash).
5. Infantilization of “black fragility”
.
we elites need to represent the decent law-abiding majority of African Americans...”
They don’t have the desire or brains or decency to vote for people who will stop the holocaust in their very community. If you think “holocaust” is too strong a word take a stroll thru Rosehill-Rosedale cemetery in NJ or Evergreen or Cypress Hills in NY and look at the dates and pictures. Slaughter from the 60s forward...
How we got here from where we were, I have knowledge that when we left God out of our lives this hate and violence rushed in to fill it. We were once a nation of respect and love in the name of our God to all peoples. No more and this is the result. Israel did it long ago, England did it, modern history is just a repeat of what God said would happen to those who turned from Him.
I do hope Professor Loury has tenure. Speeches/articles like this one could not only get him cancelled but something worse.
His thoughts and arguments remind me of Thomas Sowell, also a professor of economics. From that, I think we can conclude the discipline of economics leads to rational thought.
Select a race any race inequality will always exist just the natural order of things like it or not.
