Big Business and our Government work for China.
I said back then it would be almost trivial to implant a very tiny chip on the bottom of the ethernet jacks that get mounted to computer boards. Runs some microcode to periodically send some traffic or packet groups elsewhere. And Listen for further instructions.
I was trashed by some Freepers, who seemed quite intent on defending the board maker, Super Micro. How many servers got compromised sacrificially to let the IC play games?
Truth is, as we learned, the IC supports the IC, but not regular Americans. They don’t care if we get hurt, as long as they get their shiney new toys and get to play Spy Vs. Spy. Flynn said he would audit the CIA. Look what happened.
I despise the US 3-letter agencies. And am now probably on some list for saying it. Oh well.
That’s my informed bet :)
Remember how every German spy dropped into the UK during WWII was turned (firing squad or you work for us)? Planting misinformation is very, very important. Operation Overlord depended heavily on it.
The added chip method does not hide well from board repair facilities. Shows up on the schematic and the output of logic analyzers. Extra special “code” in the firmware is much sneakier and harder to detect.
ALL usb thumb drives are known to be compromised
NO usb thumb drive can be plugged into a computer connected to a DoD / classified network.
as for hacks... look into the hack they found in the f-22
(possibly the best hack i’ve heard of in my life. credit where credit is due...)
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Office of Personnel Management hack wasn’t actually a sellout. A huge espionage coup like that hardly made a ripple in the media. Oh, and no scandals in the Obama admin.
It is no secret, that most of the network equipment made in China contains chips, which sent the network info to China. That’s actually easier to do and the Chinese get all the info they really need.
We (major corporation) were allowed to use only the expensive Cisco routers, which are supposedly OK. There may be some other safe routers up there, but I do not know for sure.
Just assume that all your network info goes to China.
There will be no retributions to the chicoms now that one finger joe is in control. He owes them his election, and won’t be holding them to account.
Back when? You've been here since 2014.
Encyption will stop snooping except for side channel. There may be enough clear data (e.g. DNS) to be interesting to them.
What was the “F-22 hack”?
The only thing anomalous I’ve heard about the F-22 was the International Date Line problem.
That thought had crossed my mind...
“Back when? You’ve been here since 2014.”
This account, yes. But I’ve been here since 1998.
ChiCom bump for later....
The things we find out later
From Bloomberg? Isn’t this The magazine of a 2020 presidential candidate?
I love that “I’ve seen some weird shit” graphic!
oxygen flow issue found in the wafer of a board which came out under a certain situation (altitude)
This is a criminal action on the part of our government against all of us citizens. What the hell do we pay confiscatory taxes for?
