At American Experiment.org, my colleague Isaac Orr demolishes the Green New Deal fantasy. One basic problem is that wind turbines don’t work when the weather gets cold, which can be fatal in the North, especially when we are experiencing a brutal cold snap:
Temperatures are below zero in many parts of the state, but wind energy is missing in action.
According to data from the regional grid operator, the wind is providing just 1 percent of the current electricity on the grid, and solar is providing just 0.31 percent. Coal currently accounts for 55 percent of generation, natural gas accounts for 28 percent, and nuclear accounts for 14 percent.
Not only is wind not producing much electricity, but it is also producing only a small fraction of its potential output. There are 22,000 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity installed on the regional grid, but these wind turbines are only producing 1,055 MW of electricity. In other words, wind turbines are only producing 4.8 percent of their potential output. Temperatures are below zero in many parts of the state, but wind energy is missing in action.
As Isaac has explained elsewhere, the truth is even worse than that. When it gets cold, not only are wind turbines shut down so they produce no electricity, they also need to be kept warm. So in cold weather, wind turbines are consumers of electricity, not producers of electricity.
This looks bleak for the Greenies. But their deus ex machina is batteries. The battle may appear lost, but vast (infinite) supplies of lithium batteries will somehow appear to save the day. Where to we go to buy those batteries? Well, they don’t actually exist. But someday they will! Isaac writes:

WATT? We’ve been lied to? Dear grrrrreta(aka doom troll).......” HOW DARE YOU!” 😂🏭
All depends where you are in the US government-subsidies-globalists-foreign manufacturers money stream.
For certain people, solar and wind are verrrrrrrrry profitable.
For us sheeple, not so much.
-—ah, yes—those principles of physics rear their heads again—
LOL! I just read that Germany is having blackouts because the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining, for their wind generators and solar panels.
Ah c’mon man....they work great for a led bulb in the hen house...
Even with the sun shining they have snow on the solar collectors so no electricity gets produced.
Wind energy doesn’t work? Tell that to the Dutch who have depended on it for centuries.

You had to rain on the environmentalists’ parade by scientific explanation you insensitive scientist, didn’t you?
Currently in my part of Minnesota it’s a balmy -4 degrees and this weekend lows in the teens below zero are forecast. The sky is overcast and the wind is very light. However, I am comfortable in my home because of natural gas heating. Consider if all Minnesotans were forced to give up natural gas and rely solely on electricity from solar and wind for heating. I am certain I would be freezing as wind and solar sources would not be able to meet the demand for heating, let alone run factories or charge all our electric cars. In our new green energy utopia deaths from cold and heat would tally up faster than from COVID.
Are you seriously advocating wind energy to power a modern society us9ng the example of Dutch windmills as justification?
I am troubled very much if anyone can be so ignorant as that.
Wind, solar and batteries are a fairy tale told by idiots signifying nothing. Not only are the costs prohibitive it is just not going to be a successful solution. That is, unless the sheeple are going to live like 1900 in rural America again. People survived the cold and suffered the summers. Life was not much fun in the extremes of weather.
Please tell me you are not falling for this fairy tale of renewable energy.
“WIND AND SOLAR ENERGY DON’T WORK”
Another delusional conservative writer. Wind and solar energy work just fine. as do mass transportation, alternative fuels, minimum wage, enviromenrl regulations, and school funding. It all works as intended. The fact that the results dismay you does not mean these programs do not work.
Wonderful video about the true cost of wind and solar energy. Thank you.
It is never bleak for the greenies. They believe in unicorns, fairy tales and pixie dust.
I have an idea. Let’s segregate a section of the nation and put it on 100% green energy and see how they like it before forcing us all in that direction.
I have a very nice but misinformed friend who lives in rural Minnesota. She recently told me that she and her husband are saving up to buy an electric car to replace her modest RAV-4. It is the car they usually take when they have had to drive out of state for work conferences. Right now, they aren’t doing those, but I think those will eventually come back, right? I keep wondering how they will manage when they do purchase one. It should be interesting to hear her travel stories then!
They don’t like it too hot either.
Not too windy or ice.
The three little bears of generation want it just right.
My sister recently told me that her eldest son, 39 and a diehard liberal, thought he had a great idea about installing solar panels on those huge container ships that transport cargo all around the world. I actually laughed out loud thinking about that. I can picture those ginormous ships with all those cargo containers on them, and at the first storm, stuck at sea. How tragic that these youngsters think they know everything, and can solve the world’s problems with such magical thinking.
