(Reuters) - Dozens of former Republican officials, who view the party as unwilling to stand up to former President Donald Trump and his attempts to undermine U.S. democracy, are in talks to form a center-right breakaway party, four people involved in the discussions told Reuters.
The early stage discussions include former elected Republicans, former officials in the Republican administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and Trump, ex-Republican ambassadors and Republican strategists, the people involved say.
More than 120 of them held a Zoom call last Friday to discuss the breakaway group, which would run on a platform of “principled conservatism,” including adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law - ideas those involved say have been trashed by Trump.
The plan would be to run candidates in some races but also to endorse center-right candidates in others, be they Republicans, independents or Democrats, the people say.
Evan McMullin, who was chief policy director for the House Republican Conference and ran as an independent in the 2016 presidential election, told Reuters that he co-hosted the Zoom call with former officials concerned about Trump’s grip on Republicans and the nativist turn the party has taken.
Three other people confirmed to Reuters the call and the discussions for a potential splinter party, but asked not to be identified.
Among the call participants were John Mitnick, general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security under Trump; former Republican congressman Charlie Dent; Elizabeth Neumann, deputy chief of staff in the Homeland Security Department under Trump; and Miles Taylor, another former Trump homeland security official.
Asked about the discussions for a third party, Jason Miller, a Trump spokesman, said: “These losers left the Republican Party when they voted for Joe Biden.”

Sounds like a great plan. This way we can skip the primaries and just go for the main course. Elections as we know it are over any way. May as well make it entertaining.

And they call themselves “CENTER-right”???
Do Democrat then? Correct? The DNC is now Marxist so between Marxist and “Republican” is Democrat.
They want to split third party votes. They may not help Republicans retain seats but their pals in the Democrat Party will be safe.
Trump Party may attract some former Democrat voters but there could still be some former Republican voters who go to the Constitution Party, Reform Party, Trump Party, or “anti-Trump Party” depending on who the candidate is in each.
New party or I go kamikaze and vote Democrat. No more RINO incumbent for me.
Democrats steal their own primaries.
A whole three dozen people!
Yep. 74 mil is the “official” tally, and with all the questionable ballots, counts, etc. and the general lack of support for Biden I suspect it is closer to 80 million.
They must really fear Donald Trump. As they should.
Door ... rear end... Don’t let one hit you in the other. If you aren’t willing to fight for conservative principles, what good are you?

Sounds to me like these RPUGLICRATS are just trying to get a jump on a new MAGA or PATRIOT Party, trying to fool everybody into letting them join, or getting real Conservatives to join their phony NEW REPUGLICRAT PARTY (we promise we’ll be conservative Constitution loving LYERS this time).
NO SALE ASSHOLES, we know who you really are now!

Former presidential candidate Evan McMullin owes his former campaign staff members tens of thousands of dollars and most believe he has no intention of ever paying them, a former campaign worker tells The Daily Caller News Foundation. Right before McMullin’s failed bid for president in 2016 as the conservative alternative to President Donald Trump, the campaign was inundated with debt. The disastrous fiscal situation was a combination of frivolous spending by McMullin and his campaign manager Joel Searby, according to the former staffer.
And they can look at people like us and say “HEY, I didn’t get a HARUMPH outta that guy or gal”.
“principled conservatism”
What laughable propaganda. None of these people are actual conservatives. They are America-last, no borders, globalist elitists, who despise that the Republican Party is becoming the party of the average American instead of only caring about the elites. That’s all. If Trump started a third party, he’d get 70% of the old Republican vote to start with. These anti-American, anti-Constitution, anti-conservatives will be very lucky if they get .7% of the vote, as almost no actual voter supports the same things they do, only the DC and coastal elites.
Nameless republicans. Yea right, how many time have we read this story?
they are missing the point
Under Trump, many blue collar democrats changed their votes, but did not change their party affiliation. One reason a lot of us didn’t change our party affiliation was that these rich dudes were in charge of the Republican party, and we know they would shaft us.
Biden won because he used to be center Democrat: (That’s why the Democrats ran Biden not another candidate: his middle of the road reputation). And now he has shafted his union and blue collar followers by obeying the affluent progressive activists.
So if they make a new “party”, they might get a lot of registered Republican votes from the affluent suburbs, but would lose the cross over voters.
prediction....they will turn out to have real big skeletons in there closet.
Feels like a set up right from the get go.
There’s a reason they’re all former officials.
