~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Patrick Space Force Base, Florida

FLpatrickafb2

Patrick Space Force Base is a United States Space Force installation located between Satellite Beach and Cocoa Beach, in Brevard County, Florida, in the United States. It was named in honor of Major General Mason Patrick, USAAC. It is home to the 45th Space Wing (45 SW). In addition to its "host wing" responsibilities at Patrick SFB, the 45 SW controls and operates Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) and the Eastern Range.

The host wing for Patrick SFB is the 45th Space Wing (45 SW), whose Airmen manage all launches of uncrewed rockets at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS) 12 miles to the north.

These rockets include satellites for the US military, to include the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) and the National Security Agency (NSA), as well as scientific payload launches in support of NASA, weather satellite launches in support of NOAA, payloads in support of international customers such as the European Space Agency, and commercial payloads for various corporate communications entities.

Units and individuals from the 45 SW have deployed abroad during wartime, most notably during Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

The facility was due to be renamed Patrick Space Force Base in February or March 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The facility was finally renamed on December 9, 2020.

Additional tenant activities at Patrick SFB include the 920th Rescue Wing, the Air Force Technical Applications Center and the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI). Total employment is 10,400. There are 13,099 military, dependents, civilian employees and contractors on base.

The 45th Space Wing is one of two space launch wings for the U.S. Space Force, being responsible for executing military, intelligence, civil, and commercial space launches using the Eastern Range. Primary launch vehicles include the Atlas V, Delta IV, Delta IV Heavy, Pegasus, Minotaur, Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy, and Boeing X-37 rockets. It also supports U.S. Navy Trident II D5 ballistic missile tests and evaluation.

The 45th Space Wing is the host wing for Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, providing base support for NASA, the Air Force's Technical Applications Center and 920th Rescue Wing, and U.S. Navy's Naval Ordnance Test Unit.

I don’t know where Mark got that map but it wasn’t NOAA or anywhere else I looked. We’re looking at teens for lows, not zero or colder.

The salt IS crystallized because it’s crystals to begin with. They put brine down the other night when it snowed and now it’s dried on the roads. Cars drive over it and kick the salt dust into the air and we have a haze all over the area. It hurt to breathe while I was out and felt like needles in my eyes. No fun at all.

That would be very painful and I’m sorry you did have to go out in it. I hope Lake is doing ok.

It hurt like heck and made it hard to drive because my eyes watered. We always hate it when they put that stuff on the roads.

Lake is fine. He had a hot spot on his tummy that had obviously been there a while because it was so large. It isn’t in a spot I touch when I pick him up so I never felt it. Just happened to see it Friday when he was licking it and I made the appointment for today for a shot. I’ve spritzed antibiotic spray on it since Friday and it was already looking better. The shot will speed things up.

It took him a while to forgive me for taking him to the eeeeeeevil doctor. LOL

I’ll bet he WAS in a huff for a while. LOL! Sounds like one of those infections like Peaches gets. Fingers crossed, he hasn’t gotten one in a while. Just about as long as Ghost has been gone. Hmm....

Which reminds me, Sugar is still gone. I guess it’s for good. I miss her sweet blue eyes looking up at me all cross-eyed. She was such a sweetie, and if someone has her, I hope they are good to her.

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Nah, it isn’t an infection. Just a spot that itched or irritated him somehow and he started licking it and wouldn’t stop. Licked it bald. It happens to cats once in a while. Lake doesn’t have an autoimmune problem like Peaches does.

I hadn’t brought up Sugar because I figured she was still gone. I know it hurts to lose her. Not knowing what happened makes it worse. I hope someone snatched her because they thought she was so cute and has her inside, giving her a lot of lovin’. Much better than other possible outcomes.

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Are you getting any frigid weather there yet or is it still tolerable for getting out with Gizmo?

I keep holding on to that thought...she has a home where she can be spoiled inside. It wouldn’t take much to tame her. it’s just that Ginger doesn’t share. Silly cat!

Stingy Ginger. Won’t play nice with others. :-)

We have a few who’d like to be stingy but they’re forced to deal with the others being here. They either keep their distance from the others or learn to get along.

Her problem is she doesn’t KEEP her distance. She has to start something...especially when Li’l Bit sneaks in.

Ours get reprimanded when they start some crap. They learn pretty quickly that life is nicer when they behave. hey still show their butts every once in a while but overall things are pretty calm in that respect.

Crazy in others, like when they all get wound up and run back and forth through the house. LOL

Well, it's still a little bearable, albeit in the lower 20's right now. the big test is going to be this weekend when they are forecasting 3 degrees Saturday night and 9 degrees Sunday night. I think Mike Morgan, Oklahoma #1 TV meteorologist said this goes back to 1983 when we had temps as cold as this here in Oklahoma.

In any event I was able to get this pictures of Gizmo rolling in the dirt.

This head shot was taken in the bathroo at the pavilion.

This is what it looked like yesterday at Comanche Lake.

More pics from yesterday:

Doctor's appointment later today. We'll see how the rest of the day goes.

Yep, it’s gonna be right nippy this weekend all across the country. We’re looking at 15 degrees Sat. night and 10 Sun. night. At least it isn’t one of those cold blasts that gives us -0 temps. I reeeeeeeeally hate those.

Your gray skies will be here later today and it looks like they’ll be here all week. At least we got some sunshine for one day.

It looks like Gizmo didn’t mind the weather and had a good time while you were out.

I hope all goes well with the doctor appointment.

Howdy, EGC! (((hugs)))

Brrrrr...that sure sounds cold, but I think we're in for a bit of it too. Got down to about 29 here last night and it wasn't supposed to start the cool-down till about Thursday.

Hope you and Gizmo can get to the lake, but if not, have a nice drive in the country. Thanks for all the cute pictures. This one is my fave:,

“It got cooler here...I’m shocked!”

Freezing temps this weekend in Houston. Predicting maybe snow, too.
