Larry Elder: What Left-Wing Educators Don't Teach During 'Black History Month'

When will Black History Month be...history?

Apart from the bizarre notion that educators should set aside one month to salute the historical achievements of one race apart from and above the historical achievements of other races, Black History Month appears to omit a lot of black history.

Are students taught that gun control, widely embraced by today's black leadership, began as a means to deny free blacks the right to own guns? In ruling that blacks were chattel property in the Dred Scott case, Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney warned that the consequences of ruling otherwise would mean that blacks would be able to own guns. If blacks were "entitled to the privileges and immunities of citizens," said Taney, "it would give persons of the Negro race, who were recognized as citizens in any one state of the union, the right...to keep and carry arms wherever they went...endangering the peace and safety of the state."

Much more in the piece. Thanks Larry. As usual, spot on. Possibly earning Larry another notch in the racis' proclamation..............

Ask Chicago, Milwaukee, Baltimore how that worked out.

I wonder. Do primarily black countries such as Nigeria or Africa have a “White History Month” and are white Americans called say...American Nigerians or American Africans?

If darkly pigmented people in the United States are an important part of our history, why are there endeavors and achievements not taught throughout the year. Why are these people relegated to 1 of 12 months?

C-SPAN 3 (History channel) thinks every month is Black History month, to judge by their programming. (Also a fair amount of women’s history and labor history.)

indigenous people, hispanic people, asian people, gay people, women also each get a month. If you don’t fit in any of those boxes then you don’t get a month and deserve to be marginalized by Leftist academics and revisionist historians.

Because systemic racism. /s

If you want a good laugh, Google American inventors, American mathematicians, or American scientists and watch how many black faces you've never heard of show up in the list.

What he says about Dred Scott is true. That particular statement has been edited out of some versions of the ruling on line but it is still way down in there. You have to look for it.

What the SCOTUS thought about gun control in the pre Civil War era.

“It would give to persons of the negro race, who were recognised as citizens in any one State of the Union, the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, singly or in companies, without pass or passport, and without obstruction, to sojourn there as long as they pleased, to go where they pleased at every hour of the day or night without molestation, unless they committed some violation of law for which a white man would be punished;
and it would give them the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs,
and to KEEP AND CARRY ARMS wherever they went.”

There’s a reason why February. Has to do with schools and having students celebrate it without competing with other holidays too much. From May-Sept in various places, those months have schools out for at least part or most of the month. September also has Labor Day. October has Columbus day and Halloween. November has Veteran’s day, Thanksgiving, and Hanukkah starting at the end of the month. December has Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. I could go on and on but the student celebration angle matters most in the early school years.

Do they teach that at any given time, around 30% of the black population in pre-civil-war America were free men?That almost all slaves were taught to read the Bible to promote Christianity over their native Islam? (but not to write, so they couldn’t write their own day passes - although that was subverted by plantation children who taught them anyway). Do they teach that the mortality of slaves was a fraction of that of the indentured that worked beside them, that most lived long lives and the children and elderly provided for? Do they teach that black slaves were not limited to physically staying on a plantation; plantations weren’t barbed wired prisons simply as a result of no manpower to exert such control. That, same as northern cities today rift with crime, a common problem for over 200 years were groups of men getting together forming gangs (and at times colluding with Indians and Canadians) to conduct robberies, murder and mayhem? That violence was common, with over 20 armed rebellions and more than one discussion on repatriation prior to the war? Do they teach that those offered repatriation refused believing America was a better place to be, or that those who did repatriate reverted back to the ancient African practice of enslaving native populations? If they’re not teaching all that, they’re not teaching anything but one-sided propaganda.
