A Bipartisan Group Supports Domestic Terror Laws Despite Opposition From 150 Civil Rights Organizations

A bipartisan group of lawmakers came out in support of new domestic terror laws this week, despite earlier opposition from over 150 civil rights groups that were concerned about the implications for minority communities.

Experts said domestic terrorist groups could pose a continuing threat after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, leading to a bipartisan majority of the House Homeland Security Committee to agree on considering new laws to address potentially harmful groups, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

But 156 civil rights groups, including the NAACP, the Human Rights Campaign and the Council on American-Islamic Relations, had sent a letter to Congress on Jan. 19 describing concern about expanding legal authority related to terrorism.

“We must meet the challenge of addressing white nationalist and far-right militia violence without causing further harm to communities already disproportionately impacted by the criminal-legal system,” the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights wrote.

The letter said new counterterrorism laws would be used against minority communities and people participating in First Amendment demonstrations instead of their intended targets. Congress should instead hold federal agencies accountable for how they use their allocated resources to counter domestic terrorism, the groups wrote.

“We urge you to oppose any new domestic terrorism charge, the creation of a list of designated domestic terrorist organizations, or other expansion of existing terrorism-related authorities,” groups wrote. “This new authority could be used to expand racial profiling or be wielded to surveil and investigate communities of color and political opponents in the name of national security.”

“Bipartisan” is when the Stupid Party and Evil Party get together to do something that is both stupid AND evil. Joe Biden will be an asset for such undertakings. He has both sides nailed down. He was so dumb before he became senile that I’m surprised he isn’t a Republican. Then again, he’s “from” Delaware, and it’s hard to tell in that part of what used to be the country.

Isn’t “domestic terrorism” already illegal? Or are we currently allowed to bomb buildings, assassinate, kidnap or threaten politicians, shut down congressional hearings, and threaten private citizens with violence over their political views?

[[“We must meet the challenge of addressing white nationalist and far-right militia violence]]

Funny0 but i didn’t see any ‘far-right white nationalists’ running around the country burning it to the ground, assaulting people they disagree with politically, beating up old people for wearing MAGA stuff, ruining people’s lives for ever by terrorizing them and ruining their businesses and jobs, causing billions in damage, murdering cops and civilians because of hate for Trump!

The only ones i saw doing that were blm and antifa- when are they gonna be labelled as domestic terrorists? Because from what I’m seeing, they are the ones committing domestic terroristic acts, not the supposed ‘far-right white nationalists’

Where is all the damage hat these ‘far-right white nationalists’ are supposed to have caused?

When you see “bipartisan” it really means “UniParty”.

What is a white nationalist? Someone who wants to move all white people somewhere in the country and set up an autonomous zone? Never met one. And militia violence? Maybe there was some in the 1990’s but it isn’t absolutely clear militias were behind the OKC bombing or if it was a lone wolf. Ruby Ridge was one family. The Branch Davidians were a cult, not a militia.

Everyone who moves to an area for “good schools” and “nice neighborhoods” is one of those “White Nationalist” people. They move to the whitest place they can afford. Non white people do the exact same thing. It’s why Italy has a migrant problem, and the CAR really doesn’t. Those are issues that the people who run the media really don’t want to have a discussion about, honest or otherwise.
