I'm not sure that Sasse has ever worked in the private sector. Wasn't he the president of a small college in Nebraska when first elected? If so, he likely has been in academia forever.

And I think prior to academic appointment he was a congressional staffer. So he’s had very limited almost ethereal experience base to work & interpret the world from. (Notice I’m being nice!) He would even have a more realistic outlook if he had spent time as a USG bureaucrat compared to House staffer & academic administrator .
