Sasse's message to Nebraska GOP as he faces censure: 'Politics isn't about the weird worship of one dude'

Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska stood firm against leaders of his state's Republican Party on Thursday after they advanced a censure resolution against him for decrying efforts to overturn the election results and then-President Donald Trump's involvement in the US Capitol riot.

In a video addressing members of the Nebraska GOP State Central Committee, Sasse urged the party to accept critics of the former President and remain true to conservatism as the party's future.

"Let's be clear: The anger in this state party has never been about me violating principle or abandoning conservative policy -- I'm one of the most conservative voters in the Senate -- the anger's always been simply about me not bending the knee to one guy," Sasse said.

Sasse's comments come as the Republican Party at large grapples with warring factions at odds over whether to continue the party in Trump's likeness or forge a new path veering from the former President's legacy.

"January 6th is going to leave a scar," Sasse said, referencing the date of the violent insurrection at the US Capitol, where rioters encouraged by Trump sought to overturn the results of the election. "For 220 years, one of the most beautiful things about America has been our peaceful transfer of power. But what Americans saw three weeks ago was ugly, shameful mob violence to disrupt a constitutionally mandated meeting of Congress to affirm that peaceful transfer of power."

Another professional politician who needs to be quickly shown that there are opportunities in the private sector.

It would be good for him.

I can’t tell how much I loathe these people. I think there are 5 or 6 of them, and about a dozen in the House.

Each one should be have viable opposition in the upcoming primaries.

It’s time, more than time to weed them all out.

Trump’s lasting legacy will be to tightern election laws, and rid us of the RINOs.

Yes, it will give the Dems super majorities in the short term.

At the risk of being as foolish as Sasse and taking what this asshat says seriously, he thinks its about the person when its the ideas that the person espouses (and 74+ M folks as well). That point is not missed unintentionally.

What would this bozo know about politics? Hop Sing Xiden got “80 million” commies to put on knee pads to worship him. Even Obonzo couldn’t do that.

olitics isn't about the weird worship of one dude'

It isn't about 'one dude' you AH. It is about We The People and someone who finally stood up for us and actually did some of what he promised. You DC clowns are so clueless.

As an example, Dave Chappelle went through a long period where he could not handle hecklers. Politicians are thinner skin than comedians.

The only thing weird, Sasse, is that you fail to understand — deliberately I suspect — that your nationwide condemnation by conservatives and patriotic Americans is not even about Trump, it’s about your abject and very public failure to perform your primary duty as a senator — to live up to the sworn oath you took — to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

I’m not old enough to remember when state legislatures used to be able to recall senators. But I miss those days

“Sasse’s message to Nebraska GOP as he faces censure: ‘Politics isn’t about the weird worship of one dude’”

And apparently it’s not about loyalty to a President that was of, by, and for the people nor to US as a whole you traitorous POS.

The reason I didn’t vote for this DUDE, is the fact that he gives aid and comfort to the other party - if you can’t say something that helps your team - SHUT UP!.

Unfortunately the people of my great state are loyal and generally keep their Senator. He was censured once before but it didn’t affect his primary challenge.

Don’t you just love being lectured to by Mitt Romney and Ben Sasse because they are so much better than us? Their sanctimoniousness is off the charts.

Its what the Founding Father’s intended !

By giving that up via the 17th Amendment it took the states as states out of having a say at the national level.

The people have their say through the House, the states have their say through the Senate. Now for all intents and purposes the states have little to no role nationally and it’s all one HOR. The Founding Father’s (Who knew their history !) understand the fundamental weaknesses of both a republic and a democracy. They designed a system that had took the best from both, we stupidly threw it away! We are seeing the end results of a system that has too much democracy (mob rule!)

How do these people get elected in the first place? Most of the national figures are clowns and/or morons of one kind or other. They are not our best and brightest.
