Democrats Want a 'Return to Civility'; When Did They Practice It? Part 2

Last week, we covered the challenge President Joe Biden faces in his supposed quest to return to an era of "civility." Democrats never practiced civility. We listed only some of the race- and Nazi-based insults used for decades by Democrats against the very Republicans with whom they now seek "healing." Here are just a few more examples:

Left-wing actor/singer and activist Harry Belafonte, who marched with close friend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., called President George W. Bush a racist. When asked whether the number and prominence of Blacks in the Bush administration perhaps suggested a lack of racism, Belafonte explained, "Hitler had a lot of Jews high up in the hierarchy of the Third Reich."

Then-Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., former vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee and now the Minnesota attorney general, compared President George W. Bush and 9/11 to Adolf Hitler and the destruction of the Reichstag, the German parliament building: "9/11 is the juggernaut in American history and it allows ... it's almost like, you know, the Reichstag fire," Ellison said. "After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader of that country (Hitler) in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted."

Former Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said in 2002: "What we are dealing with right now in this country is whether we are having a kind of bloodless, silent coup. ... President (George W. Bush) is trying to bring to himself all the power to become an emperor -- to create Empire America."

About Hurricane Katrina, then-Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., said in 2006 that President George W. Bush's administration engaged in "ethnic cleansing by inaction. ... So by simply not doing anything to alleviate this ... they let the hurricane do the ethnic cleansing, and their hands are clean."

Then-Gov. Scott Walker, a Wisconsin Republican who dared to rein in excessive public employee compensation packages, received the full Nazi treatment. The hard-left blog Libcom.org posted in 2011: "Scott Walker is a fascist, perhaps not in the classical sense since he doesn't operate in the streets, but a fascist nonetheless. ... He is a fascist, for his program takes immediate and direct aim at (a sector of) the working class."

After the 2012 Republican National Convention and the nomination of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, then-California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton said, "(Republicans) lie, and they don't care if people think they lie. As long as you lie, (Nazi propaganda minister) Joseph Goebbels -- the big lie -- you keep repeating it."

Dick Harpootlian, the then-chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party in 2012, compared the state's Republican governor to Hitler's mistress. When told that the Republicans were holding a competing press conference at a NASCAR Hall of Fame basement studio, Harpootlian told the South Carolina delegation: "(Gov. Nikki Haley) was down in the bunker, a la Eva Braun."

During the 2012 presidential race, then-Vice President Joe Biden told a heavily Black audience that Mitt Romney, accused of opposing more Wall Street regulation, is "gonna put y'all back in chains."

Longtime Harlem Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., in 2014, said, "Some (Republicans) believe that slavery isn't over, and they think they won the Civil War."

Finally, during the 2016 presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton famously said: "You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And (Republican opponent Donald Trump) has lifted them up."

When exactly was this era of "civility" when Democrats did not call a Republican president "racist" or "fascist" or, in the case of President George W. Bush, a warmonger who "lied us into war with Iraq"? Maybe Biden's press secretary can circle back.

Civilization

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage’s whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.

The precondition of a civilized society is the barring of physical force from social relationships—thus establishing the principle that if men wish to deal with one another, they may do so only by means of reason: by discussion, persuasion and voluntary, uncoerced agreement.

The necessary consequence of man’s right to life is his right to self-defense. In a civilized society, force may be used only in retaliation and only against those who initiate its use.

I don't even want any “civility” with these evil Dems.
Being civil to evil doers like Schiff, Nadler, , Omar, Pelosi , Tlaib etc will make me physically ill.

When a Democrat says they want a return of civility they mean servility ... as in sit down and shut up and do as we say.

As someone used Maxine Waters own words substituting Cuomo for Trump. I think someone should shadow Xiden the same way.

Ie .Feb 4, 2017Protesters walked along Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House to the US Capitol to “deliver a clear message to the doorsteps of President Trump, members of Congress, and the courts

Suppressed speech, constant slander of people on the right, purges and stolen elections are NOT acts if civility.

There’s an article in Politico that says exactly what Biden should do. It compares today’s “insurrections” to the Klan and other white supremacy extremists (including Democrats) who rampaged through the South after the Civil War. Here’s Politico’s advise for Biden:

“The first lesson, experts say, is relatively clear. As Trumpian insurrectionists continue popping up across the country — propelled by “the Big Lie” that Trump’s re-election was stolen—and as Republican legislators saber-rattle about potential violence if they don’t get their way, the administration has to use the full range of tools at its disposal.”

So, they’re now claiming in this article that Trump supporters on January 6 were armed and that they intended to “assassinate” Pelosi and take over the government. So, all of the tools the government should be used to put down this insurrection just as U.S. Grant did in the 1860s.

Anyone who claims the election was rigged in the contested states is an insurrectionist. I still have a Trump sign in my yard as do others who are also flying Trump flags. Are we to be arrested as domestic terrorists and insurrectionists? I’m expecting the Pa. State Police to show up at my door and haul me off to jail any day now.

Maybe some of my neighbors who were Biden supporters will turn me in. The Progressives have a history of that kind of thing. During the Progressive Wilson administration, members of the American Protective League ratted on their neighbors whom they accused of being seditionists because they were suspected of opposing the Wilson administration. The accused were arrested and thrown in jail.

Bad times repeating themselves, people. Nothing new under the sun.

The Left has only ever been about Just-Us ... they weren’t against HUAC on principal but because it wasn’t serving their interest. The useful idiots of the past were okay with Soviet show trials and those today are eager to start some show trials of their own.

Over 60 years of non-peaceful transfer of power when Republicans win.

Democrats killed the American experiment.

Civility? not a chance - I will give democrats all the civility they have shown us over the past 4 years.

Just 2 days ago, driving home in a snowstorm, in my large 4wd pickup and came across a car that had skidded into a small ditch on the side of the road - I always have chains and usually happy to help when I can - got out, so the black lives matter and biden bumper stickers on the car - and told the drive “biden huh?” got back in my truck and drove away.

This is the kind of civility democrats can expect from me.

The Chicago 7 went to Chicago to riot and brought guns with them to the “peaceful protest”.

Look at this hogwash revisionist history on Wiki for the recently deceased...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rennie_Davis

Davis was one of the principal organizers of the National Mobilization Committee to End the War in Vietnam to plan anti-war protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. He negotiated unsuccessfully to gain a permit with Chicago city counsel David Stahl. [5] At a “police riot” in Grant Park on August 27, 1968, Davis was among protesters beaten by Chicago police officers, and he suffered a concussion.[6][7][1]

The Chicago Eight (later known as the Chicago Seven) were eight men charged with conspiracy, inciting to riot, and other charges related to the nonviolent and violent protests that took place in Chicago.[8] The original eight protester/defendants, indicted by the grand jury on March 20, 1969, included Davis, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Tom Hayden, John Froines, Lee Weiner, and Bobby Seale, a Black Panther leader.[1][9]

police riot?
anti-war? The Left was PRO-North Vietamese military.
There were riots inside the convention center and outside. They weren’t protesting the war, they were protesting the candidacy.
“non-violent”

And a year later the Weather Underground staged their first attack with The Days of Rage riots during the Chicago 7 trial.

It is obvious that incivility works. I write of the ad hominem variety in classical rhetoric. I write of the propaganda kind as well. Republicans do not use these weapons of words and allow them to be used against them. Their fear, I presume, is that it will lead to riots and I dare write, insurrection. Those are false fears.

I do not want bipartisanship. I do not want agreement with the left, unless they become right. I do not want compromise. That leads to incivility. It is politics.

Most on the right believe in the notion that a strong military leads to peace. But every once in a while it needs to be exercised so people know the military will be used to force peace. (Not that applies to our endless wars today - that's an entirely different problem.) The same is true in politics. Republican politicians need to be uncivil every once in a while to prove that they will use that rhetorical weapon. The problem they have is they constantly go into political battle with peashooters when the Democrats show up with tactical nuclear weapons.

Incivility used as a weapon is a deterrent that leads to civility.

Logic, commonsense and sound arguments only work on so many people. Remember, 50% of the American population has below average IQ's. Appeal to their emotions and appeal to the thinking man too. They are not mutually exclusive.
