An attorney for former President Donald Trump said he won’t bring up claims about election fraud while defending the former president during the upcoming impeachment trial.
“There are plenty of questions about how the election was conducted throughout the country, but that’s for a different forum, and I don’t believe that’s important to litigate in the Senate trial because you don’t need it,” attorney Bruce Castor told KYW Newsradio Philadelphia. “President Trump has plenty to win with what he has.”
Castor also pushed back against reports that Trump parted ways with his initial legal team about whether they would advance his claims about election fraud.
“I don’t know where people got that notion that was some sort of litmus test to get to defend the president, because as you saw from the document I filed, which had to be approved by the president personally, there isn’t anything in there about the election being stolen,” Castor said.
Castor and fellow Trump lawyer David Schoen filed a response to House Democratic impeachment managers on Feb. 2, arguing that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional because Trump doesn’t currently hold office. They also argued that Trump has a First Amendment right to express his views about the accuracy of the election results.
Democrats argued that Trump’s speech wasn’t constitutionally protected and said it incited an insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6.
“Just because somebody gave a speech and people got excited, it doesn’t mean it’s the speechmaker’s fault—it’s the people who got excited and did what they know is wrong,” Castor said in pushing back against Democrats, referring to Trump’s remarks to a crowd on Jan. 6.

Well that’s the same old same old then.
He's gotten nothing BUT bad advice since November 9th, 2016.
This is good advice, before he was getting bad advice.
It is the LAST chance for Trump to get this out there. The MSM will bury it later, but thy can’t bury the coverage as it happens.
Trump’s really getting bad advice, IMHO.

Peter Navarro said the same thing 😩
If he didn’t really win the election, why are they impeaching him?
“Just because somebody gave a speech and people got excited, it doesn’t mean it’s the speechmaker’s fault—it’s the people who got excited and did what they know is wrong,”
The speech isn’t what instigated the whole thing is it?
I think the lawyers just want to get the trial over with if Trump starts bringing up voter irregularities which in my mind he should it probably makes some wishy washy GOP senators more likely to vote to convict since he won’t accept “the will of the people” since he’s probably been told that there’s more then 10 GOP senators that would voter to “convict” like people who are retiring like Rob Portman
Wonder why everyone’s suddenly pretending like we had a legit election?
If true, I don’t care about the outcome.
Bingo! You said it very clearly.
I'm going to assign an official - BOOM! - to this comment.
The lawyers are being threatened at a level that is unimaginable. I suspect they told Trump that he was on his own if he wanted to bring up what happened during the election. Trump also has been threatened by Linda and God knows who else in the Senate.
But I do wish Trump would fight on his own terms, and he needs to understand that even if he does get off on Impeachment, he’ll almost certainly be arrested in NY or somewhere on fake charges (although his supporters might not be very happy about it).
>If he didn’t really win the election, why are they impeaching him?<
Now that’s an excellent question.
The blue pills are given out like candy but the red pills are hard to come by.
The question about the stolen election won’t be asked, it will be focused upon one point entirely. Did Donald J. Trump, by his impassioned and rousing oratory, incite ANYBODY to plan, put into place, and execute what was determined to be a well-coordinated and orchestrated assault on the sanctity of the Capitol building at PRECISELY the moment the Trump rally was ending?
Only, the Trump rally had NOT ended at the time the surge over the wall and the escorted entry into the Capitol building was initiated, and any of the audience who heard Trump speaking could not possibly have made the distance from the rally to the Capitol grounds in the time span given for the unfolding of events.
The Reichstag fire “false flag” explanation is so far the most probable depiction of the events as they occurred. Virtually every other narrative is based on emotional and highly biased interpretation of the facts.
But of course, this is far too rational for the fevered and deluded Never-Trumpers, both Democrat and Republican.
Since it IS a KANGAROO Court and an unconstitutional procedure (Bill of Attainder) there’s no reason at all to think that the actors in control would allow for any defense beyond what we will see put on by Trump’s team, which is the straight and narrow strategy being telegraphed by the response submitted in a countermove to the charges.
As some have proffered in opinions here- why even participate when to do so legitimizes the illegitimate.
He’s talking to the GOP for advice. Of course, the advice is anti Trump, anti MAGA, and dead wrong. The same advisors for five years now, the same bad advice.
That's the reason 500,000 people gathered in DeeCee. It's like trying to say Woodstock wasn't about music but instead it was a physics convention.
