After receiving new information from additional sources, this correction is in order. The booms heard on the west side of the Capitol, at about 2 p.m. were not commercial-grade fireworks as I wrote earlier. They were flashbang grenades launched by the Capitol Police. From the previous article:
I could not detect any real leadership or strategy. Masses kept coming. People were frustrated. There was a little pulling on barricades at the choke point, the scaffolding where there appeared to be an entryway to the Capitol. I caught a whiff of pepper spray from the intersection of the crowd and Capitol Police, near the scaffolding, and moved upwind to the North of the crowd. What appeared to be several commercial-grade fireworks were thrown at the police.
This correspondent did not see any devices, other than water bottles, thrown at the Capitol Police. The water bottles did not appear to be frozen (clear, not frosted). They were thrown after the first booms were heard. This shows how previous conceptions can color our perceptions.
The new sources offered first-person accounts of what they observed from a position very close to the scaffolding on the west side of the Capitol.
The sources started at the Washington monument. They had a similar experience to this correspondent. They could not make out what President Trump was saying, but they could occasionally catch a snatch of clear speech from people who were somehow streaming the President’s speech to small boomboxes or portable speakers. Before the President ended his speach, they started walking toward the Capitol.

Commercial-grade (or more likely just higher end consumer grade) fireworks is a tactic of Antifa that had been used against Police all Summer at BLM ‘protests.’
We sat next a couple on a Capitol bench who were resting after getting hit with flash bang and tear gas... The older man got hit in the leg but didn’t appear worse for wear. While sitting there, we soon saw police and one nurse wheel a person on a stretcher who we later identified as Ashley. It happened so quickly.
That was a mostly peaceful protest which the media turned into an insurrection to crucify Trump and us. 9 months the USA burned under Antifa and BLM without a peep from democrats and media enablers.
Yes, precisely.
That is one of the major reasons to jump to the conclusion the booms were from fireworks thrown by the protestors.
The reality was different. The sources were in an excellent position to know.
I was about 200 feet back from the writer and can confirm exactly what he said.
At one point someone at the northern periphery did launch a single red flare into the air. That was the only firework used. The police were woefully unprepared and really seemed to enjoy their flashbangs. They weren’t very smart in their use of teargas. I’d think that checking the wind direction would be wise before launching teargas-repeatedly.
I saw several police rinsing their eyes after the self inflicted teargas launches.
The crowd of several hundred thousand loud, angry and peaceful protestors had no idea there was anything going on at the other entrance.

The Kent State shooting occurred after several days of arson and insurrection on the campus. Allegedly the National Guard were returning fire after initial gunshots.
But that isn’t how the Left spins it all today.
And yet the woman who was shot by a guard has been blamed for her own death. At the same time her death is cited as an example of the extremist violence at the event.
Did the people at Kent State not hear the orders to disburse? It was a bad scene that had been going on for days.

That was my guess that week when the press was saying that the officials had been tear gassed. No description of who sprayed it, only an implication that it was the protesters.
I was surprised to hear flash bangs as we approached the Capitol after the President Trump’s speech... It escalated very quickly since it took us approx 40 mins to walk to Capitol from the Ellipse, and confrontations with Capitol police had already been going on for some time.
Yep. Same for us. Flashbangs were very frequent as we were arriving.
