Some House Democrats want to pass ranked-choice voting bill this year

Some House Democrats hope to pass legislation this year that would give voters the option to list their choices in order of preference in future federal elections, a practice known as ranked-choice voting. It’s part of a package of reforms designed to reduce extremism in politics, making politicians more responsive to the majority of voters rather than the noisy minorities in both parties. Advocates also want to increase the number of House members for the first time in over 100 years, and to move to multimember congressional districts. “The most likely piece, which I hope we can pass this year, is just ranked-choice voting in primaries and general elections for federal elections,” Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., told Yahoo News.

This would be bad news for conservatives for several reasons.

One - accumulation of votes. Usually there are a number of other candidates running in oddball to semi-serious parties. The 'rats probably look to "harvest" these votes since many of them will go with "I'll vote for Joe from the Broccoli party 'cause he's my guy. But then I guess I'd rather see Criminal-cohort from the 'rat party as a second choice." In other words, the 'rats are looking to pick up secondary votes from all those fringe fragments they've created.

Two - encourages fragmentation of GOP votes. A lot of GOP votes come from people with a pragmatic streak - vote GOP 'cause no-one else has a chance of beating the leftist scourge the 'rats are running. This would encourage fragmentation of GOP support.

Three - manipulation of ratios. If the 'rats write the law carefully (and I'm sure they've already considered this), they could make the algorithm/equation for calculating how down-rank votes are counted have two favorable characteristics. First, ensure it favors their (currently) far more fragmented support by pumping up 3rd, 4th, etc. level choices disproportionately to 2nd choices. Second, ensure that these algorithms/equations are under the control of bodies they have a solid lock on such as State level election commissions or some such.

Four - demonization. Overall, to make this work in favor of the 'rats they'd really only have to utterly demonize the right. You know, have their lapdog MSM call us deplorable, racist, sexist, etc. 24x7...which they already do. Ranked voting in general will give them the opportunity to push conservative candidates further "down scale" as the brainwashed sheeple will rank any other candidate above the conservative candidates because they believe they are so terrible.

THANK YOU for a clear explanation. No wonder D’s are in favor of this. It is easy to muddy elections and that would work to their benefit because we know R’s would never stoop to these tactics.

Please correct the record. I read your later post and we track together up to a point. But I don’t understand the rest of your post. Would you mind extrapolating from where I started?

Candidate A:48% B:20% C:17% D:15% -— who wins?

If you’re saying that once D is eliminated then each individual 3rd place vote is recounted and so on... gah. I don’t feel any better about the process.

Our elections are already corrupt so who cares. I don’t hear of any elected criminals (officials) to concerned about what just happened. The Republicans are ok with the partipation trophy. No work and the $ keeps rolling in.

Right wing assault??

Is that where you Really Go Hard on the keyboard? :)

We have already proven our cowardice (lie to yourself and call it prudence if you want) by not fighting back for Real.

Not an unorganized mess like Jan 6.

A real response...to really fight

Like so many here said they would if the election was stolen.

We are a joke. A lot of southern and midwestern fake tough guys. I live up north and don’t even count it as no one here remotely ever talked about fighting back.

And it breaks my heart

I’m for firing them all, hiring some project managers and accountants and balancing the budget and run the system, and let judges and others write the laws.

Found a good explanation here. The article doesn't make me feel better about this process at all. Let's make voting and counting even more complicated. That will end well.

The Rats are setting up a system where there will be one party, Democrat, authoritarian rule, forever. With no ability to reverse it.

They took over local elections offices in important cities so they could get away with fraud.

They set up illegal procedures wherein ballots were counted with no verification that an actual registered voter submitted the ballot.

Now they’re going to make those illegal procedures into legal procedures.

They excluded election monitors; now they will enshrine that in law.

They are going to pack the Supreme Court.

They are going to add 4 more (Democrat) senators.

They are going to add more (Democrat) congress animals.

We can’t vote our way out of this; they have the voting game hard wired so they win every time.

I prefer a system where there is just one house member for each county in the country.

And it appears that just having RCV software on voting machines in states that don’t have RCV allows makes vote tampering much easier.

So after that first round D is eliminated. Every ballot where D was the first vote, we now look at their second votes, and allocate those into the remaining buckets.

So imagine D’s second rank votes went as follows. 3% for A. 11% for B and 1% for C, then the race is over. A now has 51% and he is the victor.

But if D’s second votes were 1% for A, 14% for B and 0% for C, we keep counting, by eliminating C, because we were now at A: 49 , B: 34 and C: 17.

The only way A loses is if 100% of “C” had “A” as their worst choice. If that happened it would be 51 to 49 for B over A.

This system would basically be a way to reallocate the votes of the Greens and Libertarians. Nationally, it would have changed the 2000 result, if you assume that all those Green Nader voters had Gore as their second choice. It probably also would have meant Hillary would have won, if you assume the same thing about whatshername the Green lady.

In a primary, it probably would have derailed Trump, because all those Republicans, Rubio, Jeb, etc would have had Trump as their LAST choice. Trump won the primary, not with majorities, but with pluralities in state after state. So if you reallocate all those 1% and 2% ers to Jeb, then boom, no more Trump. (Cruz voters might have had Trump as their #2)
