Military taking over Burma
Fox news ^ | feb2, 2021

Why is the military taking control in Burma? The coup follows days of tensions between the civilian government and military Problem:

The military drafted the constitution in 2008 and retains power under the charter at the expense of democratic, civilian rule. Human Rights Watch has described the clause as a "coup mechanism in waiting."

The constitution also reserves key Cabinet ministries and 25% of the seats in Parliament for the military, a portion that limits the power of a civilian government and rules out amending the charter without military support.

As far as I remember, this Burma deal was the only "achievement" of the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton. Obviously that's gone. As the article suggests, the deal had "coup mechanism in waiting." build in. Great job Hillary!

I can hear the war drums along the Potomac now. I figured six months till the dems found some diversion through war. Gee, it only took them a month. I’d like to know what is our national security interests in Burma or whatever they call it now??

Burmese military taking over country after claims of rampant election fraud.

I love the irony.

Your phrasing the question wrong. It does not have to be in our national security interest. It merely has to be in US interests. Of course the ironic part of “US interests” from the political Left’s point of view is a globalism where cosmopolitan corporatism and sexuality rule the day. In the eyes of the Left, that’s where all democracies end up. That’s why we can’t let Myanmar (as isolatated and far off as it may be) lose its democracy.

If it is reported as a bad thing by our press it is probably good!

That is funny. Dementia Joe used the military to take over Washington DC and install a dictatorship after an election that he lost. I doubt if the military leaders of Burma are going to give two hoots what the Biden regime says about this.

America needs a real good war, with a universal draft and really strict rules of engagement, so no "innocent civilians" are killed or injured.

The whole world will be so grateful to us.

The Biden administration has said that it will “take action” if this coup is not reversed. So here we go again.

I’ll sell everything I own and donate the money to Harris / Biden 2024 if either one of them can locate Burma on a map.

It is bad.
Actually the military is the socialist force in Burma. They held Burma hostage in their Myanmar version of militaristic socialism for decades.
Then they sort of backed off in 2008. Hillary was the leading force negotiating the deal between socialistic military and democratic opposition. Little bit of freedom and economic improvement followed.
The democratic parties won decisively all elections, but were restrained by the military, who kept most of the real power, thanks to the “deal”.
The “deal” was lampooned as the only real achievement of Hillary as the Secretary of State. All other of her deals were dismal failures from the get go, now even this turned out pretty sour.

Democracy or Representative republic is not really possible in a country with large ethnic and tribal minorities. I once had a long discussion with a friend of mine in Việt Nam, a young fellow who wondered why Việt Nam could not be a democracy. I, for once used the Socratic method to discuss it with him. The result crystalized my own thoughts and his. In a tribe or clan based society democracy as one man - one vote is not possible because the voter votes for the candidate closest to his lineage and the purpose of electing someone is the same as the purpose of getting someone into the bureaucracy. Those in government are there to obtain as much for their own lineage as possible.

Switzerland, the USA and Australia are the only long term democracies because all were originally settled by runaways and exiles, i.e. individuals leaving families and clans to migrate to remote new places where one had no tribe to rely on. One had to rely on oneself. Ever rising prosperity is a democracy killer because it supports ever growing numbers of drones who vote and demand but do not have to produce anything to survive and/or live well. The poor among them demand what the rest have and the educated wealthy rich kids have time to dream up Utopias, not having to face the necessity of producing in order to live. Both believe that wealth is infinite and hoarded by a greedy segment of society and only needs to be redistributed in order for all to be rich. In this society, the USA, they cannot understand that compared to the rest of the world and all of history up to a few years ago, almost all Americans are rich already. Poverty in this society is purely a relative perception.

Burma is the old name of the country. (Former British colony, originally part of Indian Empire, east of India and west of Thailand and Laos, in Southwest Asia, if you cannot locate it in the map!).
The Bridge on the River Kwai from the famous movie is located there.
When the socialist military took over, they destroyed the economy and changed the name to Myanmar.

The USA is a Constitutional Representative Republic, as you mentioned in your first paragraph.
