Moreover, the ratio of young-to-old will be dramatically imbalanced by the soon surging ranks of the elderly, putting unprecedented strain on the ties that hold society together.
The latest data from Shanghai’s Statistics Bureau reviewed by Asia Times indicates that there are now half a million more senior residents aged 65 or older than young aged below 35 in China’s most populous and reputedly most vibrant city. Only 92,000 babies were born in 2019 in Shanghai, a city of 24 million residents.
The bureau has warned of a coming “retirement tsunami” that threatens to drain the city’s already nearly depleted pension funds in the next two to five years, as most of the baby boomer generation of the 1960s are set to retire or be pensioned off.

OK, Before looking at China, maybe it’s time for us in the west to look at OUR OWN Demographic time bomb. I don’t think we’re doing any better in this regard.

The population is going to crash in the entire world except for sub-saharan Africa. Even the middle east is under replacement now (except for a few places like Gaza and Yemen)
china already has a track record regarding how it treats it’s people. Believe me, this retirement thing will NOT be a problem for them! These chinese retirees will have a VERY short retirement. The same will be true here, funding “social security” will not be a problem, because everyone who starts receiving “social security” won’t live long enough to receive much of it. Problem solved!
Why is anyone surprised that he would make the decisions he did that caused all those “vulnerable” people to die? He’s a baby-killer! When they’re able to kill babies, they sure don’t care about anybody else’s life.

Conservatives in the US average 2.1 kids - replacement level. Liberals average 1.5. More religious subpopulations still have 3+ children. But liberals are spreading THEIR worldview in the schools, convincing many to never have children ...
Furthermore, increased religiosity can REVERSE population declines. The country of Georgia has raised its birth rate by having their Eastern Orthodox pope be the personal godfather to every third or later legitimate birth. It led to birth rates going from 1.5 to 1.9 or so. That’s nearly replacement level.
More importantly, it occurred WITHOUT a rise in single motherhood or government checks. It was entirely due to a rise in third and fourth children being born, along with more people having a second child.
Another example would be Israel. By being openly religious, it has above replacement level fertility ... though the secular again average 1.5 while conservatives have 2.5.

The U.S. will take a while longer to raise the birth rate because we are heavily secular. But we still have a lot of Mormons, Orthodox Jews and some devout Southern Baptist and Latin Rite Catholics. So it would probably take 3 or 4 generations. Maybe by 2100 at this rate.
Stop LEGAL immigration. Wages will rise and watch the next baby boom.

Just like women from India. That look hot as hell when younger but look terrible by age 40 they age terribly
