New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s adviser Rich Azzopardi ridiculously speculated that Florida was hiding its real statistics. When a former head of the New York state Democratic Party embarrassed the Cuomo administration by flying to Florida to get his coronavirus vaccine, Cuomo spokesman Jack Sterne responded, “Anyone holding Florida up as a good example of anything during this pandemic needs to have their head examined.”
But what else could the Cuomo crew say? New York’s economy lies in ruins, while Florida is poised to bounce back. Florida’s unemployment rate for December 2020 decreased to 6.1%, below the national average of 6.7%. New York state’s was 8.2%, with New York City at 11.4%. And these numbers don’t include Cuomo’s late-December arbitrary shutdown of indoor dining in New York City. The same month, California was at 8.8% and Texas was at 7.2%.
DeSantis didn’t just stop statewide lockdowns. He also used executive powers to proscribe local governments from using lockdowns without reason. A September order, which DeSantis renewed in November, said that “Floridians should not be prohibited by local governments from working or operating a business” and that “restaurants, including any establishment with a food service license, may not be limited by a COVID-19 emergency order by any local government to less than fifty percent (50%) of their indoor capacity. If a restaurant is limited to less than one hundred percent (100%) of its indoor capacity, such COVID-19 emergency order must on its face satisfy the following: i. quantify the economic impact of each limitation or requirement on those restaurants; and ii. explain why each limitation or requirement is necessary for public health.”

As a lifetime Floridian, I hope we can keep the state from turning into a liberal cesspool...
When things are going in the right direction, it attracts a certain number of liberals who bring their politics with them, inevitably that ruins it for everyone...
We have to hope that some see the light and don’t bring their politics with them or we attract the few conservatives from liberal hell holes and keep the state moving in the right direct....
Florida Ping
“I pooped in my nest and now it’s smelly. Hey, can I come over to your nest?”
get involved locally its where the carpetbaggers will get started keep them from taking hold
Central Florida is probably under a similar Dim operation agenda as Georgia to turn the state blue despite lots of conservative voters. Last election, Seminole which was normally red, turned blue. Look at the voting map. There’s no other option on the ballots for some of the posts where we are. Makes me sick.
Been a Floridian and 50/50 snow bird for 10 years now. This season is by far the most road traffic I’ve ever seen. It’s probably 20-30 percent above what it was last year.
New York state’s was 8.2%, with New York City at 11.4%.
Those numbers are impossible
The city is dead and only 11.4% are unemployed?
Those restaurant cooks and waiters are working from home, dontcha know?
By the way, don’t know exactly where to post this but around 5:10-5:15 PM on Saturday Jan 30, by the Apopka Wal-Mart grocery (not the big store, the green logo supermarket). The parking lot is next to a lake/drainage pond, which is some 20-30 feet down to the right. People do fish there so it’s not unusual to see maybe four or five people there, but not a crowd.
We parked on the right-hand side of the building (there’s parking spaces and a sidewalk on the right-hand side—not the “park and pick-up” groceries side. We could hear them shouting when we were going back to our car on the sidewalk of the building.
We saw a group of people (40-50) near the lake/drainage. They were shouting like at a pep rally (not at us, but to each other in a semi-circle). We could make out the word “anarchy” in whatever “chant” they were saying. Scared the hell out of my husband and I. Just thought someone ought to know about it.
Except they don't ask permission. And they demand you pay to clean up their old nest.

I don’t mind ‘em comin’ down here, but leave your liberal/progressive politics where ya came from!
It’s all about getting Ron DeSantis, he is the number one target of Democrats, because they know he’s Trump’s heir apparent in the MAGA movement.
They will poor billions into the 2022 Gubernatorial race, because they know if he’s re-elected, despite all of their efforts, he’s a shoo-in for POTUS in 2024.
I won’t be moving to Florida because it’s in the gun sights of the Dems. They want Florida blue.
I’m thinking more along the lines of West Virginia.
Have faith in Governor DeSantis.
Californians have taken over Arizona and are ruining it. No tent cities all over the place just yet, but over time, the Californian attitude of letting everyone express themselves will ruin AZ. I hope you folks in Florida don’t let those East coast know it all snobs take over your great state.
DeSantis baring something unexpected happening, will win his 2nd term in 2022, that will make 4 straight Republican Governors all of whom won 2nd terms....or 32 straight years of Governors, most of those years we’ve had Republican Control of both Houses of the State Legislature.....and you see the results.....we are going to fight like hell to keep it that way...
Is your state Supreme Court still kind of liberal or has that changed as well?
middle of the road conservative, DeSantis appointed two strong conservatives to the court....those two replaced two judges that were put on the bench by our last Democrat Governor, Lawton Chiles, they were super liberal...
DeSantis now has 3 judges, Charlie Crist has 3, and Rick Scott only 1, if we can get one or two of the Crist Judges off of there, we will be good for a long time..
